Jacklough Explained
It's been brought to my attention that I should share more about Jacklough because it needs more shippers cuz I tend to only talk about it with my chatzy groups which already ship it because I have it in.... 4 places (though one is on hiatus). It started off on a whim, with a random shag, that led to more shagging, that led to a passionate relationship, because they were more compatible than I initially thought. They have similarities between each other, and Turlough has some similarities to everyone's favorite coffee boy, Ianto.
For starters, Jack and Turlough have some military background, and they make for a badass duo in a firefight. Jack isn't bothered by the sarcasm and thinks it's kinda sexy . They've both lost a lot, including their home, their families, and particularly a brother, who they are each reunited with in some way in canon. They get closer through their physical encounters and Jack gets Turlough to open up, and can relate to some of the stuff he's been through. Turlough promised himself not to get close to anyone ever again after witnessing his old girlfriend's death, but Jack isn't the type to stay dead so he's one person Turlough won't lose so easily.
Ianto liked coffee, Turlough likes tea. Ianto wore a suit and tie, Turlough wore a suit and tie. Ianto was serious but with plenty of capacity for sarcasm, same with Turlough. Ianto tried to save his girlfriend from death and failed, guess what, so did Turlough. They even have similar answers to the same question ("Where's your sense of adventure?") asked in audios even though one was by Radio 4 and one was by Big Finish.
Not to mention they're flippin adorable together. I have 2 high school verses and 2 semi-canon verses for my main Jackloughs, and each Jack and each Turlough is different yet totally the same. One of the high school ones has teenage Time Agent Jack sent to kill a Trion emperor who's hiding on Earth, who isn't supposed to be there, but he thinks he's supposed to kill Turlough because he introduced himself jokingly as an alien emperor. Jack rebelled against his duties and got with Turlough, now they pull pranks and fight homophobia. Did I mention this one takes place in 1985?
In my other high school one, they're both normal humans, and the war where he lost everything is still in Turlough's recent past. Jack is incredibly understanding, even robbed a jewelry store with him, and very rarely gets mad at Turlough's lashing out. Turlough still misses Deela and is afraid of admitting that he loves Jack, but writes a nice letter with drawings when he finally does. When Turlough was reunited with baby Malkon (less than a year old; like I said, the war was recent) Jack promised he'd help Turlough raise him for as long as he could. Jack calls Malkon a Piglet and spoils both of them. He's more like the respectable Jack in Torchwood than the other one, who is more like the con man pre-Doctor version of Jack.
In the main canon one I have going, they fell in love when they were trapped in the TARDIS for a month together with a few other people, and Turlough had to save Jack from a torture chamber. Eventually Turlough started working at Torchwood and Jack showed him why earth wasn't so bad after all. This Jack is madly in love with him and is often afraid of anything happening to him, but at the same time loves to see him being a badass with a rocket launcher.
So ship it. I promise to be your best friend if you at least read this and don't think it's stupid and at at least think it's possible. It's not my only Jack ship but it's my favorite. Multishipping FTW!
