She reminds me of that Lady Gaga career track where you throw away your ties to marginalized communities in an attempt to get conventional recognition and accolades.
Kelly - John Boyega was explicit about the racialized harassment and sidelining that he and Kelly got in their roles in the new Star Wars trilogy and she couldn’t even verbalize that there was a serious problem and couldn’t stand in solidarity with him. Then she accepted her lead role in Disney’s next bland animation movie.
Simu - loudly supported Asian American solidarity and anti-racism communities for Twitter clout and then shacked up to the next Mark Wahlberg (unapologetic actual Asian hate crimer) project.
you don’t have to dislike them or boycott them or work to deplatform them or whatever, it’s not that serious. i’m not a huge movie/TV fan even though my followerbase is from that One TV Show so I have a low threshold for just avoiding watching something.
