I’ll find you in hues of yellow; like honey, like gold, like bumblebees on daffodils, and I will love you, like sunflowers worship the sun.

The Mediterranean sun has something tragic about it, quite different from the tragedy of fogs. Certain evenings at the base is the seaside mountains, night falls over the flawless curve of a little bay, and there rises from the silent waters a sense of anguished fulfillment. In such spots one can understand that if the Greeks knew despair they always did so through beauty and its stifling quality.

Hannibal AU where Jack Crawford is the smartest man in the room, as you would expect from the head of BSU.

Crawford becomes convinced that Hannibal Lecter is the Ripper after accompanying Alana to one of his parties. (“Look at this house. This is a serial killer’s house.”)

But seeing as he has nothing on Lecter, he needs a lure - and who better than Will Graham, unassuming instructor, empath extraordinaire, and creepiest thing on payroll in Quantico?

The operation goes off the rails almost immediately when instead of trying to draw Will to the dark side and involve him in his bloody extracurriculars, Hannibal falls head over heels in love and begins courting him.

Jack calls off the operation, but Will, who hadn’t had a date since the Quantico rumor mill designated him their psycho - in - residence, insists he can honeypot his way into Lecter’s murder basement instead.

By the time Jack realizes what’s what, Lecter has proposed and Will has accepted, giving himself spousal immunity from testifying against Hannibal.

And then Jack spends the whole season throwing red herrings to make Hannibal think Will betrayed him in a relentless effort to make them split up. Will Hannibal realise in time that Jack is trying to drive a wedge between him and his beloved husband, or will this end in horrible tragedy?

And of course, Jack has to keep up his friendly and trustworthy front, to keep Hannibal from suspecting that he has been found out. Except he’s having a hard time tolerating seeing Hannibal get all lovey with Will, because he is starting to realize Will is no longer faking it.

And Hannibal’s behavior is not helping, because between all the killing and pretending to be human, he hadn’t managed to fall in love ever before, so this whirlwind romance is hitting him hard. He forgets other people are in the room when Will is with him. He is so preoccupied with being deliriously happy that he’s lost a good deal of his coolness and decorum.

So to add insult to injury, Jack is starting to earn a reputation around Quantico as a bigot. Most everyone else thinks Will and Hannibal are adorable. But there’s Jack, grinding his teeth to a pulp whenever he sees Hannibal kiss Will’s hand and Will blush. Eventually, the HR department gets wind of it, and Jack is made to attend a tolerance seminar.

Last night I dreamed this whole bloody fic in technicolor.

The best part was that Jack was still invited over regularly for Sunday brunch, where he’d make polite conversation, get caught in the eye-sex crossfire between Will and Hannibal, and stare helplessly at the beautiful array of cold cuts Hannibal set out. And then he’d go home and just pound his head against the wall at the impossibility of it all.

And then somehow, it was four years and two surrogate babies later - a blond toddler mini!Hanners and the brand new little curly-haired mini! Will. During yet another brunch, while Will bottle-fed the infant in the den, and Jack picked at his veggie omelet and tried not to look at the meat, Hannibal ventured a hypothetical:

“Look, what would jailing the Ripper accomplish? He’s useful. We both know if he got locked up you’d just start sending Will to him with case files, to soften him up for a consultation. And then he’d break out of prison, kill a bunch of people in the process, and kidnap Will to some country with no formalized extradition procedures. It would be unpleasant for everyone involved. Isn’t this much better?”

And Jack is like: “Cut the crap, Han. My lab is tired of processing dead child molesters. Can’t you take a break? Go with Will and the kids on holiday or something? And stop trying to feed me evidence.”

And in the ensuing pause they hear a baby’s wail and Will’s exasperated scolding in the den:

“Matas, no. We don’t lick our baby brother.”

And Jack thinks to himself: “Thank God I’m retiring soon.”

This is so much more than I could ever have hoped for

This changed me

I’ve read/ am reading fic that are upwards to 150,000 - 200,000. You’re telling me that authors that write for fun are writing a full-length book for the fun of it? They have earned my respect 10 fold.
