One of the few vaudeville-style drag queens who managed to sustain a career through the 1920s was Francis Renault, "The Slave of Fashion." While he was lauded for his soprano singing voice, he was most well-known for his opulent, outlandish wardrobe. In 1932, his costume collection was valued at $50,000, well over one million today.
