Created by Joan Ganz Cooney and Lloyd Morrisett of the Children’s Television Workshop (CTW), the first episode of Sesame Street aired on 10 Nov. 1969.

The show was produced with a combination of private and public funding, including grants from the Carnegie Foundation, the Ford Foundation, and the US Government.

The show is now broadcast in more than 120 countries and has received 159 Emmy awards, more than any other series on television.
