The neon signs of Hollywood nightclubs in footage shot during the 1950s. Many of these night spots were popular with movie stars of the golden age, particularly Ciros (which is still standing and now the home of The Comedy Store) and the Cocoanut Grove at the Ambassador Hotel (where stars gathered to see and be seen and where the Academy Awards were held in 1940). Though the Ambassador Hotel was torn down in 2005, the entrance facade from the Cocoanut Grove was retained and restored and is now the entrance to a new auditorium for a school built on the former site of the hotel in 2010.

The Howard Hughes Building on Romaine is where his major films like Hell’s Angels (1930) and Scarface (1932) were edited.
It seems incongruous that it is located next to a massive cement factory, but that cement factory provided the cement for the footprints in front of Grauman’s Chinese Theater and the sidewalk known as the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
