쌍화점 | A FROZEN FLOWER (2008) dir. Yoo Ha Late 14th century, the last waning gasp of the centuries-old Goryeo Dynasty. As that regime comes to a bitter end thanks to the machinations of the Yuan Dynasty, The Goryeo king responds by organizing a military force known as Kunryongwe, led by the daunting commander Hong Lim. The leader captivates the king to an alarming degree - to such an extent, in fact, that he almost completely diverts the regent’s attention away from his queen, leaving her with tremendous feelings of reluctance and hesitancy about this relationship. The ruler also devises a complex and wickedly clever scheme to protect the Goryeo line for future generations by appointing Hong Lim to impregnate the queen and father a new ruler with her. Produzido pela filha Denise Dumont, conta com depoimentos, entre outros, de Gilberto Gil, Caetano Veloso, Bebel Gilberto, Daniel Filho, Elba Ramalho, Otto e David Byrne (Talking Heads).

It’s such an easy release to let the larger entity make your decisions for you. You can then have the moral high ground without having to do any personal work of your own, and let the group decide who rises or falls. It’s not as easy to be a free thinker, with the highs and lows of being your own informed agent in the world, sometimes knowing more than you’d like. I call on all free thinkers to put everything into building a counter narrative to what is being forced onto us as inevitable and morally correct. The world is going to be saved by the subversive, not the compliant.

Cake Vault, 2008. This was the first highly crafted infinity cake room I made. Cardboard, 10 wardrobe mirrors, and mixed acrylic media. $1500 budget. It really hurt to cut this one up and haul away to the recyclers.
