I think it’s kind of hilarious that so many people have this perception of Zuko as this hypermasculine bad boy type when that’s not at all what the core of his character is about. He canonically was weaker at firebending than Azula because he was taught to fuel it with anger, but that approach didn’t work for him as well due to his compassionate nature.

When Zuko really began to excel at firebending, it was after gaining the understanding that fire is life, not just destruction. It was after proclaiming to his father his ambition was to bring an era of love and peace. Zuko’s arc demonstrates that his true power comes from his compassion and his love. And I think that’s beautiful.

Wait I’m not done actually. This moment in particular is so striking to me because I think it’s the first time Zuko understands and acknowledges fire as something beautiful.

Fire, the thing that mutilated Zuko and hurt him so badly. And now he’s surrounded by it, realizing he isn’t cursed to use it to hurt people like it hurt him, but that it’s a beautiful thing he can use for good.
