Gorgeous 😍
oh, you’re gay? so which one of you is the ex-fascist double agent who put his life on the line after an ice cave meet-cute and which one is the former captain of the high honor guard who’s crippled by his own perceived failure?
Everyone talks about the meteorite piece in The Honnorable ones, but no one seems to have picked up on the work that was done around it during that episode. So I'm going to:
Initially, Kallus tries to keep warm with the lantern that was in the escape pod. As well as not being very effective, the lantern doesn't last long. The battery froze after a few minutes and it went out.
Then Zeb decides to give Kallus the famous piece of meteorite he has just found in the cave to keep warm. Kallus will keep this piece of meteorite once he is rescued by the Empire.
These two objects (the lantern and the meteorite) represent the values of the Empire and the Rebellion respectively. The lantern is artificial, fragile and ephemeral. The meteorite, on the other hand, is much more mystical: it was found in a desolate place, we don't know exactly what it is, and yet it shines with a thousand lights and heats up much better than the lantern. It lasts for an indeterminate length of time, since it's still glowing when Kallus takes it back to his cabin. And best of all, it's Zeb who gives it to him, after making him understand that the empire is based on the terror it inspires, and not on security and stability as Kallus believed. While the lantern is as fragile and artificial as the empire's values, the meteorite represents hope, the faith on which the rebellion is based, and humanity in general.
And for those who think I'm seeing an interpretation where there is none, look at the colours of the two objects: they're identical. It's the same orange-yellow, associated with energy overall. It's no coincidence, the creators of this episode knew what they were doing.
