Study for “Spanish Dance” (c.1879-1880). John Singer Sargent (American, 1856-1925). Oil on canvas. The Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art.
The figures in this study are quite close as Sargent seems interested in the way the dancers are positioned with each other. To some the painting and this study evoke Sargent’s Capri trip of 1878 when he painted dancer Rosina Ferraro.
