Dusty Springfield & Pet Shop Boys
“What Have I Done to Deserve This?” is a song by English pop duo Pet Shop Boys and soul singer Dusty Springfield, from the 1987 album Actually. it was the Pet Shop Boys first collaboration with another artist. According to lead singer Neil Tennant, their record label (EMI) did not want the duo to work with Springfield, instead suggesting Tina Turner or Barbra Streisand for the song. Springfield’s career had declined from its peak in the 1960s, with her last top 40 hit in 1970. But Tennant was insistent on choosing her for the song, having long admired Dusty in Memphis (1969).
A commercial success in both the United Kingdom and United States, the song helped revive Springfield’s career and led to a resurgence of interest in her music.

It was 30 years ago: Steve Reich’s album of The Four Sections and Music for Mallet, Instruments, Voices, and Organ was released on Nonesuch Records. The former, written in 1987 and performed by the London Symphony Orchestra and conductor Michael Tilson Thomas, was “Reich’s most assured work of the decade,” said the New York Times. The latter, performed by Steve Reich and Musicians, is "an entrancingly crystalline piece,” said the Times.
