These Endless Days (Are Finally Ending in a Blaze)

Following the events of Civil War, the Avengers are disbanded, scattered and in hiding - and not coping all that well. The rise of anti-superhuman feeling continues, and it's not only the Avengers who are feeling the effects. Steve Rogers and team are about to discover a whole other world, and with it comes what might be the biggest threat they've ever faced.

“Whole town, devastated, on the whim of a child.”

Agent Riley Finn, waiting in the shadows of the Hagia Sofia with his recon team, takes a deep breath as he watches Captain America dust a vampire.

“Carters are Watchers,” he intones, and Peggy turns to face him, fascinated against her will to hear her father’s words from her little brother.

“We’re not super, Xander,” she says, a brief flash of annoyance colouring her eyes before she rolls them at him. “We’re nothing like the Avengers.”

He had had such high hopes for this one. Had thought that she had been the key, the girl that he had been waiting for, the one to fulfill the prophecy. And yet, as they all had before, death had claimed her. This one was the same as all the rest.

“Last set of people I ‘had to meet’ turned out to be Nazis,” Steve returns flatly, but she’s been in the game long enough to be able to detect the note of underlying interest running through him as he says it.

“What is - what is your work?” Peggy asks, curiously. “What could the Council possibly want with a scientist?” Erskine sits back in his chair and rubs at his chin, feeling the beard that has grown there over the long months he has been kept at Kastel Kaufmann.

“Vampires, right,” Scott yawns again, waving a sleepy hand in Steve’s general direction. “Tennis vampires, or-” He pauses, hand out-stretched towards the kitchen counter, frozen in the act of reaching for what passes for a clean mug these days. “Wait, what? Like Dracula? Bleh, bleh, bleh?”

She has strength enough to focus on the task at hand, to despatch the three vampires that come at her fast, one after the other with teeth bared and bloodlust in their yellow eyes. As they explode into dust at the point of her broken chair leg, the men who watch at the window are silent, but their eyes see all.

The girl wakes in a new sort of darkness, gasping for air that is thick and heavy and does not fill her lungs the way she needs it to. For a moment or two she feels as though she is more than one person - that in one body exists more than there should, a jostling within herself - themself? - she shakes her head, blinking into the gloom and the feeling starts to recede.

“I’m guessing you all recognise Steve,” Maria says, nodding toward him as she speaks.

“Don’t you, uh, usually come with real shield action?” Xander mimes throwing an over-large frisbee, and the little redhead - Willow, Steve reminds himself - beside him puts a hand to her face with a grimace.

“Here’s to making history,” Erskine says, nudging the small glass tumbler back across the desk toward her, and raising his own.

“A history no one else will ever know the truth of,” she says, ruefully, as she toasts him in kind.

Friction Burns

“It’s all crisis acting, designed to make us fearful and reliant on superheroes to save us - but we know the truth-” the woman insists, taking a few steps forward and jabbing her placard in the air as if to punctuate her point.

“Oh, brother,” mutters Ashley, and Kennedy curses under her breath.

“-all this is staged, it’s just manipulation by the enhanced,” the woman continues, barely taking a breath as she spits out the words. Vamp number four shoots Kennedy a sympathetic look, whilst vamp number five slowly circles a finger at its temple, and she fights the urge to put her head in her hands.

Steve Rogers and team are about to discover a whole other world, and with it comes what might be the biggest threat they've ever faced.

A Slayer outpost, teams created by Buffy to monitor hotspots of demonic activity across the world, encounters a force that they find more difficult to deal with than usual.

“We don’t need your kind here,” a grey haired man steps forward out of the crowd. With a sinking feeling, Kennedy notes that he’s carrying an honest-to-God torch - the preferred accessory for all the best baying mobs.

“They’re talking about the vamps, right?” Ashley looks to her left and then to her right, seeking reassurance from the other two.

“I don’t think so,” Colleen answers slowly.

At the moment I'm actively writing/updating/finishing on:

These Endless Days (currently working on chapters 13 & 14) The Only Logical Solution (currently working on the final chapter) When We Collide (currently working on chapter 10)

Broadly am trying to 'finish' 50 Ways to Meet Your Lover, although that is a long work in progress so I'm not beating myself up too much about that! (3 of 50 is a long way to go, but that's the end goal).

For Christmas I'm also looking to update and finish Advent, plus I've got some new Pizzaverse on the go and at least two brand-new Christmas fics I'm hoping to get written for the season, which will be posted under Christmas Time (Mistletoe & Wine).

Aaaaaand at some point I will loop back to You & Me, but I lost alllll my notes on that and need to get back to the storyboard and figure out where I was going with it (and if that still makes sense).

I do have a couple of ideas for continuations, the next part of Hocus Pocus (tentatively titled Black Magic) is one, a second part to A Twist in the Tale, two sequels to Justice is Blonde (National Treasure and one tentatively titled Jury Duty), plus I'd really like to return to The Boys in Blue as I've got a fair chunk of a sequel to that.

Tatiana’s story; the city is blockaded and the citizens are desperate. Some a little more desperate than others. In the midst of this, Tatiana Fedorova is called, the previous Slayer having finally perished after two long years in a camp, the Watcher’s Council voting unanimously against any rescue attempt. Just fifteen years old, Tatiana is frightened and - trapped in a city fast running out of food and hope - she finds she has to fight off more than just the ravages of hunger.

Tatiana awakes on the morning of the third day after her fifteenth birthday - a day that goes mostly unacknowledged by both her and her family, because what would be the point - and feels different. Blinking into the weak morning light, her breath already clouding in the cold air of her bedroom, she tries to place what the feeling is.

Steve Rogers and team are about to discover a whole other world, and with it comes what might be the biggest threat they've ever faced.

Steve has to answer to Sam about his nocturnal activities after he explains Maria’s phone call, which leaves Sam angry seeing as he’s been trying to keep the team together and Steve’s been largely distant.

Bleh, bleh, bleh?” He mimes fangs as he asks the question, index fingers hovering at the sides of his mouth and his lips pulled back.

“Exactly like Dracula,” Steve answers, a faint tinge of excitement in his voice beginning to rise as he turns away from Sam to the shorter man. Sam exchanges a short glance with Barton, who shakes his head and reaches around Scott to switch the coffee machine on.

“With the cape?” Scott’s excitement rises with Steve’s own, his tiredness forgotten as Steve’s words start to sink in.

“No cape,” Steve admits.

“Oh,” Scott deflates slightly, before brightening again. “What about bats?”

“Not to interrupt this Hotel Transylvania nerd party,” Sam cuts across Scott’s hopeful question with a pointed look at them both. “But this conversation wasn’t actually about vampires.”
