In 2015, Fridoon was erroneously reported to the police for threatening a bookstore clerk with a knife. He was in fact carrying a pen. Just after midnight in an alley behind the bookstore, with his bodycam off, Officer Neal Browder confronted Fridoon and shot him fatally within 5 seconds.
The incident was caught entirely by a surveillance camera, and the footage shows several troubling facts: Browder neglected to turn on his car's overhead lights when entering the alleyway, making it difficult to identify him as police; though Fridoon was walking towards the officer, he was slowing his pace and possibly stopped entirely when he was shot.
At no point did Fridoon try to attack the officer — and it is possible that he didn't even recognize that a police officer was in front of him — yet he was killed within seconds due to imagined hostility. Neal Browder was not charged. (San Diego, CA)

In 2013, Clinton was in an apartment complex when Dallas officer Clark Staller confronted him for a domestic disturbance allegation. Police claim that the two got into a fight in which the officer tried to taser Clinton twice, and when that failed to stop him, shot him 7 times. However, at least four witnesses contradict that story, and say that Clinton was following the officer's orders. Officer Staller also has a record that casts doubt on the credibility of his account; a year before, he had received a 20-day suspension for being untruthful to a supervisor and entering inaccurate information on a police report, among other things. In 2016, Abelino (28) was allegedly driving erratically when Stockton officers Matthew Garlick and Lucas Woodward initiated a traffic stop. Abelino ran from his vehicle and fought with the officers, who used physical force and a stun gun while taking him into custody. When he was being handcuffed, they noticed he was unconscious. Emergency medical personnel performed CPR and took him to a hospital, where he later died. The autopsy indicated that the cause of death was "mechanical asphyxiation". The case was initially marked a homicide by the pathologist, then an accident by the coroner, and changed back to a homicide 2 years later upon further attention to the case. Yet, no charges were filed against the involved officers. (CA / Stockton)

On January 4th, 2013, Darrell Banks was mistaken as an armed suspect that the Philadelphia Police Department was after. He had just left a family member's birthday party when officers Jeffrey McMahon and Montanez chased him into an alley. Police claim that Darrell had pointed an object towards the two officers and so Officer McMahon shot twice and injured his left side. However, Officer McMahon said he saw Darrell holding a black object but never saw him hold or point a weapon at them. The black object was later discovered to be his phone, showing that Darrell was unarmed. A couple hours later, Darrell died from his injuries. (Philadelphia, Pennsylvania)

Francisco was a 73-year-old man who was experiencing a dementia episode when he was shot to death by police officer Reagan Selman in 2016. Francisco was carrying a dark crucifix, which was erroneously reported as a gun. Police assumed that he was armed without independently confirming whether that was true.

In 2017, Deaundre Phillips was in a friend's car outside an Atlanta police annex, waiting for the friend picking up documents inside. Nearby plainclothes police officers assumed the odor of marijuana was emanating from their car. Deaundre tried to flee when officers attempted to enter the car, possibly thinking he was getting carjacked. Then, an officer shot and killed Deaundre on the scene. Deaundre was 24 years old. (Atlanta, GA)

In 2014, Tanisha was at home when officers arrived on reports that she had been "disturbing the peace." Tanisha was known to have issues with mental illness and was prescribed medication for bipolar disorder and schizophrenia. Though police allege that Tanisha suddenly went limp after resisting being escorted and handcuffed, her family disputes this. As witnesses to the situation, they state that they saw an officer use a takedown move to force Tanisha onto the pavement and then place his knee on her back. Tanisha became unresponsive, and was left lying on the ground for 20 minutes until an ambulance arrived. She was pronounced dead at the hospital. The county coroner's office later ruled her death a homicide by asphyxiation, supporting the family's account. (Cleveland, OH)

In 2018, Joshua was behaving erratically in public. Officers confronted him on the street and tried to handcuff him, and he ran towards a bank, ending up breaking a glass door.
Officers tased him 25 times over the course of three minutes, and they refused to remove the taser leads even after handcuffing him. In body cam footage he can be heard pleading with the officers , and he eventually lost consciousness. He never woke up again — he died in a hospital several days later. (Tulsa, OK)

In 2017, 20-year-old Eric Rivera was walking down the sidewalk with a green plastic toy water gun when he was confronted by Los Angeles police officers, who were investigating a call about a man carrying a gun. Within 11 seconds of sighting him, they opened fire and shot 11 rounds, fatally wounding Eric. Their car, which they had forgotten to put into park, then ran him over. There are no known charges, and the LA Police Commission determined the police officers were justified in their actions. (Los Angeles, CA) Learn more about this case

Well I’m just shocked! Very shocked!
Kentucky Attorney General Daniel Cameron only recommended a potential charge of “wanton endangerment”. Homicide charges were never even entertained. The attorneys representing Breonna Taylor’s family say that Cameron “clearly failed to present a comprehensive case that supported justice for Breonna.”
An update from today, 9/30/20, is that Attorney General Cameron has requested a one-week delay in the release of the grand jury recordings. He has been given until noon on Friday.
