Some Diamonds and Pearls from ‘The Trial’. I’d never drawn/written them before so I went nuts… especially on the Diamonds, who I think are fascinating +_+ <3

Loved working on this episode with the incredible Paul Villeco, and was completely knocked out by the powerful BG color work by Elle Michalka and music by Aivi + Surasshu. One of my favorite episodes to be apart of during my many years on this show.

Amazing even without the colours.

The oldest Demo for “What’s the Use of Feeling (Blue)?”

I was so over the moon and so intimidated to write a song for the legendary Patti LuPone, words cannot describe! From here Aivi & Surasshu brought such an incredible otherworldly quality to this song… they helped me compose it at it’s earliest stages. It’s so odd to me now to hear this prototype version with ukulele!

Please you must listen to the final here as well!!! https://soundcloud.com/aivisura/steven-universe-whats-the-use-of-feeling-blue

Thank you so much for watching!

surasshu and I collaborated with the Google Doodles team to create music and sound design for the 2016 Rio Olympics Doodle. Thank you to our musicians, Stemage (guitar), Kristin Naigus (piccolo), and Lachlan Day (trumpet) for their wonderful performances! Video credits: design and animation by Nate Swinehart, with layout support by David Davis. More about the Fruit Games here.

It was a blast to do this! I hope I did my Brazilian heritage justice. We’ve been trying to expand our palette with more real instruments and this is one of the pieces where it made a big difference to work with such great performers.

The games are fun too, and we did that music and sound design too–so check ‘em out on your phone!

This is the second Google Doodle I know they’ve worked on and it’s great once again :D

The original uke demo of “It’s Over”

This may have been the hardest song I’ve written to date, I wrote and scrapped 5 or 6 versions before arriving at this… the long held note at the end after Pearl throws the rose in the air was a request from Joe, this raw recording predates it! Deedee, Aivi & Surasshu turned this song into something so incredible… infinite thanks to them and to Jeff Ball on strings… this episode was a dream made real for me and I’m so so grateful to my amazing team!!!

I love that Rebecca puts these videos out. It’s a great encouragement to creators out there that every wonderful thing started out as a work in progress and that there’s always room for improvement and reinvention until you’re satisfied.

Pearl slays.
