thoughts on the first two episodes of tscosi season 2:
- pidgin!! dwarnglish!!! every time brian jeeter talks about linguistics years are added to my nerd life
- I’m really excited to see where mccabe’s arc goes. they’re annoying now, but that means they are rife with potential for character development. I really enjoyed their conversation with park and the moral quandary raised. also, their interactions with krejjh and brian were a lot of fun.
- I’m likewise excited to see how arkady is going to develop. she has a lot of trauma to work through and a long way to go, and I am looking forward to that slow, arduous journey so much.
- I also like that a conflict was set up very organically between arkady and violet, and how that conflict obviously isn’t going to be easily resolved, but it also doesn’t feel contrived or like it’s going to break their relationship. it seems realistic, I guess, is what I’m saying,
- captain tripathi and park … that conversation, about tripathi’s depression and what park went through under the regime, really tugged at my heartstrings, though it was short. hope we get more interactions with them in the future – their dynamic is very interesting.
- krejjh and brian are so sweet together. <3
- max gavins!! I loved everything about his character. though the conversation with arkady about the potential child soldiers was so painful.
- I like that violet being a medic comes through in the slightly more analytic way way she talks about the other characters’ health/mental state/overall well-being. it’s such a neat character detail.
- as always, I love the subtlety and care with which the regime and the resistance are written. the resistance has artists and academics – but it needs an army. the regime can be objectively terrible – but it takes a personal investment for someone to betray them. the regime will see the same things from a different perspective than the resistance. other smuggling groups will be cracked down on because our MCs are smugglers. and on and on. it just feels … very thought out in a way that makes a lot of typical sci-fi with a generic authoritarian regime feel flat in comparison (or idk maybe I haven’t consumed much good sci-fi). either way, I appreciate that.
