i know it’s been said before but no book character will literally ever be as iconic as peeta “if it weren’t for the baby” mellark. like in book 1 when he confesses to having a crush on katniss on live television, that’s strategic. he knows he won’t win the games but he can help keep katniss safe and send her home and get district 12 a victor. but in book 2 he’s like “well we’re all gonna die and there’s no stopping the games so i’m just gonna fuck shit up and make every capitol official’s life a living hell for as long as i can” and then he does. nobody is doing it like him

!!!!! ohhh my god how do you. how do you accidentally (and against your own will question mark??) write a story that amounts to "this gay love is the one thing- the ONE thing a malicious god cannot touch" HOW do you, as a storyteller, get handed a story like that on a silver platter by way of a 12 year series of coincidences and unpredictable real world events- and then do NOTHING with it

Getting people to watch Supernatural has always been hard because if you mention the hot guys it sounds like the Vampire Diaries or Twilight, if you mention the angels it sounds like a very religious show, if you mention the horror people expect it to be very scary for all 15 seasons, and if you mention the funny episodes people just look at you weird.

How do you even sell that show?

Especially now that I have to add "you should watch every episodes in the original english version, except for 15x18 that you should watch in spanish. Whatever you do, don't ever watch the finale episode."

It’s a supernatural horror romantic comedy soap opera bible fanfiction that got cancelled one episode before the actual ending. Oh that? That’s just a very boring documentary about the alternate universe main character dopplegangers who weren’t very good. Yeah they tried out a thing, you know how these supernatural horror romantic comedy soap opera bible fanfictions show are... they experiment and sometimes it fails. Yeah best just pretend that episode doesn’t exist. Trust us.

“not only did dean and crowley run off together for a few months, during which they canonically fucked, but we will bring it up as often as possible for the next two years” is an INSANE creative decision to make on what was originally a manly monster hunting show

cockles have done a considerable quantity of truly ridiculous things in their time, but here are the things I still can’t quite believe really happened:

- misha “accidentally” tweeting a link to a tumblr cockles analysis post

- misha showing his undone zipper and semi to jensen onstage when he thought they weren’t being watched (and jensen visibly having problems breathing) 

- jensen giving misha one of his silver rings and misha wearing said ring with his wedding ring 

- misha getting ridiculously flustered about whether or not he and jensen had kissed

- misha straddling and choking jensen onstage and jensen having to *ahem* adjust himself afterwards

- misha talking about how submissive jensen is 

- the entire underbear incident 

- misha deliberately using phrases like “warms the cockles of my heart”

- misha reflexively calling jensen “sweetheart”

- the fact they collectively and unwittingly brought about the most popular ship in modern history purely through their ridiculous levels of sexual chemistry with each other

supernatural having a renaissance a) after the show is done airing and b) during a time where the cw can’t throw any extremely profitable in-person events (effectively stopping them from profiting off of the gay people flocking back to their show) is already a perfect display of cosmic irony but when you add in the fact that the spn finale was sacrificed at the altar of promoting walker which is bombing so hard it’s gonna get cancelled mid-season it becomes straight up hysterical

I can take criticisms of the dabb era. but scoobynatural is a perfect episode of television. dean confronting his loss of innocence through his interactions with a piece of media that has been a more consistent presence in his life than any person and has come to represent the idealized version of his own heroics. the divine in the mundane. the strict adherence to affirmative fan participation in all cases except the intent to bed daphne. “how do I look?” “two-dimensional” “perfect!” as an incidental encapsulation of dean as a character. transgressions against fred as sublimation of desire and the eventual donning of the ascot as a winking acknowledgment of their shared queer interpretations. a child ghost who does not want to cause harm but whose anger has been harnessed to perpetrate crimes of capitalist greed. dean can shield the mystery gang from the terrors of the real world but who shields the winchesters from the horrors of their very existence. but most importantly. handsome cas
