Hello! I made this blog because I’m in love with shows like red dwarf and Star Trek, (basically it’s a space/sci-fi blog) I hope you enjoy too!

I find it incredibly funny when, in Star Trek, they change the look of a species, to make it stand out more, to generally make it look more alien because makeup and prosthetics are getting better or just because they decide the old one wasn’t good enough, but then pretend that nothing ever happened.

I’m not talking about the Klingons, as they actually do talk about their old designs (also their design change was fair enough) but I’m talking about the Trills, who randomly changed up their WHOLE look from that one tng episode, and it’s never mentioned. 😭

Like, are they different species or something??? Their newer design was literally taken from another species, so did they one from each race have a baby together and started a whole new race of people in the span of like, 5 years???

Also, the Bajorans. In tng, Ensign Ro has a weird nose/eyebrow ridge thing that makes her look like she’s really angry (honestly yeah go off) but that is taken away and never mentioned again.

Actually, pretty much every species from tng into ds9 had a design change, or a personality change, and eveyone is just kind of like “ah yes, the way things always were, nothing has ever changed”.

By the way, we don’t talk about discovery aliens here. That stuff was scary. 🫠

I’ve had a few dreams about Star Trek, but my absolute favourite is when I dreamt that Ds9 had an 11 SERIES spinoff. 😭

I was so confused, because “How in the world did I not know about this” and I was convinced it was fake until I watched the first 3 episodes and it was the BEST THING I HAD EVER WATCHED.

Basically the plot is that all the characters on Ds9 lose their memories, and just go (or get transported) to Earth I guess for some reason. Then, Ben Sisko (who cannot remember anything) kidnaps all of them and forces them to join his pirate ship???

And so basically they are made to start a pirate crew against their own will, but then everyone gets really into it and it just starts becoming a ragtag group of people. Quark starts a bar even though there’s only about 10 people and Odo is just really scared because he cannot remember how or why he can shapeshift and he is absolutely terrified because of it all of the time.

2nd episode, Morn is there and Quark starts talking about how Morn is probably so weak and everyone is like “wait who is that guy why is he even here” and Sisko says “he just came with the ship idk guys” so anyways Quark challenges Morn to a fight, and then morn starts speaking in the deepest, thickest Russian accent ever, says “game on” or something, and throws Quark across the ship. Nobody messes with Morn again. Nor is he ever mentioned.

3rd episode, I can’t really remember but there’s a part where the Ds9 pirate crew is running away from a bunch of other ships and I think “oh they must be getting attacked” but then the ships just start throwing them supplies??? With a massive arcade claw machine hand thingy??? While all the ships are still moving??? Then I remember at the end they somehow start a campfire and just eat s’mores (even Odo) and I’m just like wow they are such an amazing team AND THEN I WOKE UP :(

When I awoke I was so confused because the dream was so real and I couldn’t remember if the show was actually made and so I was like “damn what was it called” and I knew it was something along the lines of “sparkle rainbow team” but then I slowly came to my senses and realised no of course the show didn’t exist and I was deeply saddened and wouldn’t stop going on about how amazing it was for a week. 😔🥺

Honestly, I love Morn as a character, but they gave the guy way too many lines. I just felt that after about season 3 pretty much every episode is about Morn. Do you remember that speech he did about the Cardassians that totally should’ve been given to Kira? It went on for half the episode, and although it was good, I just wish we could’ve seen more of the other characters. :(

However, I did love that one episode where Morn drinks at the bar, it’s so funny me and everyone with just started uncontrollably laughing, he’s just hilarious to me. 🫠👍

What do you guys think?

There isn’t nearly as much “background character killing that not a single person seems to care about” in later Star Trek series like TNG and DS9, but I do love how sometimes if the character is important to the plot they’ll all be really sad about it and be like “Ensign Crinklecracker gave up their life in the line of duty and we will remember her sacrifice for the years to come” but if the character is killed off to show how strong the other opponent is or if they just aren’t important everyone will be like “oh no!” And then just keep on going on with the plot. (the background character might get mentioned at the end like “5 of my crew died to defeat Gul Crunklecronker” maybe just maybe)

Like that once guy who died in “civil defence”??? He LITERALLY did the most dramatic fall and death and no one even cared they just sort of forgot about him 😔

Anyways just give my poor Guys a break, just mention them, they would like to be remembered as the Ensign who got stabbed by Mr Evilington or something. :(

I probably missed out a few (like Dianna Troi’s child who existed during the second season but grew up in like a week or smth) but I put down one’s that I thought people would actually care about.

Also, didn’t include Tora Ziyal because I was mostly talking about the younger children or the ones we got to see at a young age. 😀

Guys already wrote a comment about this but I forgot Nog (poor guy) so just pretend it’s starfleet related children 😬

Headcanon: Before the events of “improbable cause” and “the die is cast”, Garak held a slight grudge against Odo because he doesn’t buy any clothes from him, and he would put a bunch of fabrics and patterns that he thought Odo wouldn’t be able to master yet, to try and entice him in (it never worked. Poor Garak.)

“Lower Decks was made by people who hate Star Trek”

No, lower decks was made by people who love Star Trek enough to make an entire show about everything Star Trek is, to put in references to episodes that barely anyone knows about, to watch all of Star Trek enough to know every stereotype and running gag in the fandom, and to still make the show able to stand on its own 2 feet.

They put in a reference to the animated series episode “the infinite Vulcan” where Spock is cloned to be a massive Vulcan, they put in a reference in the comics about “The way to Eden” in their first edition, these are people who care about Star Trek enough to find every nook and cranny of it, and create a likeable show about it.

I am also a firm believer that if you truly like a show, you are able to point out that it does have flaws, and to accept that, and I feel that lower decks does that perfectly. It shows that your little perfect Star Trek show has flaws and inconsistencies, but shows that you can still enjoy watching the show, as well as you can fix those mistakes or just have it be funny.

I really like lower decks. 🫠

What does everyone think is their best hot take about Star Trek? One that you think more people should agree with, I mean.

For me personally, my hot take is that the first few seasons of DS9 were actually pretty good.

Don’t get me wrong, I love the dark and intertwining story lines of the later seasons, and I do think a lot of the characters (e.g, Dr Bashir and Jadzia Dax) we’re not that great of a character and lacked likeable traits and fleshed out personalities, but I mostly say this because of the story lines.

The thing is, I also really like the first 2 seasons on TNG as well. I love a good story line that doesn’t really mean anything, and the characters are just goofing off. Of course, it’s better that DS9 didn’t stay like that, but I deeply enjoy watching them doing useless shenanigans like Odo trying to direct an ostrich off stage, or everyone saying random words for 40 minutes because of some illness, or the fact that almost every episode had a moment between Quark and Odo, I honestly really enjoyed these stories.

There’s also some stuff I miss as well, like I feel that Garak should’ve had more episodes where he was still on the drug, or that were less episodes that were just Odo falling in love Kira but not being able to be with her (because the writers hate him I guess) as I honestly was never interested in the storyline.

Not to say that there isn’t goofy more silly episodes as the show goes on (who doesn’t love a good ferengi episode), but I do appreciate the series where there was no real danger, and you could just sit back and relax until the show started to actually get going. What do you think?
