Rad covers!
A growler concept that I came up with and executed the design. Was instructed to design a summer growler theme, so it was pretty open ended.
I love space and felt stargazing was a great theme. I drew the summer constellations that you would see in the northern hemisphere. The final version at the top should in theory accurately display these stars. I took a spherical star chart and converted it into a cylinder. Naming the constellations and even giving a shoutout to the summer triangle. I incorporated a camping patch to create a focal point.
Attached are two alternate patches that were rejected.
Beer + Stars = A Stellar Night!
Early draft of a design I’m working on for the fun of it.

19th Century Author Biographies book cover series by Hilary Gaby
Charles Dickens, Fyodor Dostoyevsky, & Mark Twain
“The concept for this biographical book cover series was centered around the author’s place of origin, and features elements that directly reference those places. A papercraft technique was used to create a three dimensional landscape scene which would enforce the idea of the author’s setting and help achieve a sense of cohesiveness through out the series.
I chose to incorporate fences and other small icons to depict the author’s life and to help illustrate what kind of environment these literary legends were exposed to and how that had direct influence on some of the most famous stories in history.”
These are beautiful.

Up top, that's Freddie Williams II and Dan Scott's fantastic cover to Brain Boy: Men From G.E.S.T.A.L.T. #3 featuring zombie bikers of the apocalypse!
The next two images need a little explanation...
If you check out the all covers of Captain Midnight and Brain Boy, you'll see that I, as an editor, LOVE logos that are brightly colored and highly contrast the cover art. I want the name of the comic to punch you in the face from across the room so you come over, pick it up, look at it, love it, and buy it.
Anywho, joking with designer Nick James, I said that this tendency of mine was aimed at winning "the non-existent 'Most Diverse Catalogue of Logo Colors Used by an Editor in a Single Year' Award." He said he'd help and sent along the two rainbow colored treatments as a gag.
I laughed... then immediately started scheming. One day, you're gonna see these colors on the cover of a comic I edited.
The next day, I'll be looking for a new job. But it will be worth it! ;)

I like Ben Sears' designs.
In case you can't tell, I'm extremely excited about Victor Santos' Polar: Came from the Cold coming out this week. In honor of that, I thought I'd share the cover process on this amazing collection.
Here's how it went...
1. Victor sent 15 sketches for potential covers, each amazing in its own right.
2. After selecting some favorites and tossing some ideas at Victor (like adding the main villains to the cover), Victor gave us 4 penciled versions.
3. The initial front runner was selected (though folks who buy the book can see completed versions of the other two that Victor finalized for the collection), then Victor added color.
4. Finally, designer Jimmy Presler created a logo and whipped up a cover design.
It's a beautiful book. You guys should all buy it this Wednesday at you local comic shop.
