Since directing Gable in Adventure, Fleming had left MGM and made only one film, the disastrous Joan Of Arc, with his longtime love Ingrid Bergman. Out of respect to Fleming’s widow and family, Bergman was conspicuously absent from the funeral, at which Gable served as pallbearer”.
