They were pretty clearly paralleling Kino with Luthen in this episode in terms of their leadership of a Rebellion, and I find it so interesting.

Luthen is asked what he's sacrificing for the Rebellion, and he says he's sacrificing his ability to be kind, to have real relationships with anyone, his morality in some ways. He's sacrificing his soul in the hopes that ultimately the Empire will be destroyed and everyone else will be free.

Kino leads the prisoners out to freedom, knowing he'll never be able to escape himself, knowing he'll have to stay behind afterwards which means he'll be overwhelmed by the guards and likely killed as a result. He's sacrificing his own life for everyone else and refusing to leave people behind if they don't have to.

Luthen is willing to sacrifice 50 people just to keep one spy in the ISB who can get him information that will ultimately prove more useful in the long run. He's willing to cause more oppression and suffering because it means people might be more willing to rise up and join the rebellion.

Kino is making himself known to everyone specifically because hearing from him will give them all hope. He puts himself out there and makes himself visible and heard.

Luthen leads by hiding in the shadows, he sends other people in his place to do jobs while he works to raise funds on Coruscant by selling stolen artifacts to the rich elite he's trying to take down.

I’m not sure that Kino knew there’d be no freedom for him. Probably he did - they all saw the sea through the docking port when they arrived, their “last breath of fresh air,” despite the prisoner transport ships offering no windows. He probably knew the whole time that his “one way out” was death.

Both of them gave everything.

“General?”

“Yes, Co— 24?”

CC-2224 let the slip of whatever the General had started to say slide.

(Co— what is Co— so familiar, out of grasp, Co— please you need to leave, I need you safe plea— shh, go back to sleep. -dy)

It wasn’t his place to correct him. “We are still establishing control over the airspace. Please keep inside until safety protocols are instituted, Sir.”

(it’s not safe, go, I need you safe please— sleep or we will make you)

The General sighed. “Of course, 24. I’ll be along in just a moment.”

CC-2224 saluted, caught the General looking at him over his shoulder. Yellow burning eyes.

(Shouldn’t they be… sleep blue reboot)

His head is jerked. He jerks his head.

“Stay with me for a minute, Co— 24.”

(Co—? What is Co— so familiar, out of grasp)

He had duties to fulfill, he didn’t have time nor the inclination to watch, what was it, the planet’s sun rise over the distant mountain range. “Yes, Sir.” Fell into parade rest and pretended to not notice the General’s hands shaking. It wasn’t his place. Good soldiers follow orders.

“Many people seem to think it foolish, even superstitious, to believe that the world could still change for the better. And it is true that in winter it is sometimes so bitingly cold that one is tempted to say, ‘What do I care if there is a summer; its warmth is no help to me now.’ Yes, evil often seems to surpass good. But then, in spite of us, and without our permission, there comes at last an end to the bitter frosts. One morning the wind turns, and there is a thaw. And so I must still have hope.”

ROGUE ONE: A STAR WARS STORY 5-Year Anniversary | Released 16 December 2016 “I’ve been thinking about Jyn and the rest of Rogue One. How many things went wrong for them? And Rogue One took whatever steps they needed. People making distractions, sacrificing themselves, amping up the signal. All improvised. This chain of sacrifice… all leading to me taking that shot.” — Luke Skywalker

An earsplitting screech outside your door jolts you awake and into panic mode. You flounder to keep yourself from falling out of bed, heart racing and hands shaking at the thought of someone breaking into your apartment—

Except… you’re not in your apartment — you’re still in your office at 79’s. You didn’t almost fall out of bed — you almost fell off the couch. And the screaming that so violently woke you is just the whir of a floor-scrubber as the cleaning droids go through their morning routine. Rubbing the sleep from your eyes, you sink back into the couch. As the adrenaline fades, your brain starts to connect the pieces of the hazy puzzle.

You stayed here last night.

Alone.
