Sometimes I think about the fact that in my fanfic Hans has a grand total of 59 nephews and nieces... and the fact that I'm probably not that far from the truth...
Drabble - Haunting.
Still within a pirate!Au.
For 30+ server on discord, 100 words - prompt: "Haunt".
It's been three years. Why was it still happening?
He should be over it by now. Wasn’t it his promise to himself? To leave it behind and forget?
And yet, every time he was passing by some stupid historical monument, he thought of Lars. Every time he heard about a new king being crowned in some God forsaken country, he thought of Caleb. Every time he heard someone sneaking up on him, he instinctively expected to see Rudi and Runo, smirking.
It has been three years since the last time he saw his brothers. Why were they still haunting him?
The King of the Southern Isles: "The Westergaards are lions, not mice".
A local rebellion's section of education and propaganda: Little mice can sneak past the lion's claws, get to the pantry, grab what they can and run, and the lions won't even notice until one of the thieves bites their tails.
And hence: one of the many anti-Westergaard propaganda posters.
I keep seeing people portray Hans’ nieces and nephews as little kids and this is fair. That said in The Frozen Heart it’s said that all of Hans’ brothers, with the exception of Lars and the twins, all had kids. And Hans was seventeen at the time. So it is not outside the range of possibility that Hans’ age gap with his oldest niece and/or nephew is, like, seven years.
In short Hans should have a brigade of teenagers who are mean to him.
I've been summoned!
I think it is an interpretation matter, because, let's see:
"Caleb had married a few years before, and his wife had given birth to their first son soon after, which took a great deal of pressure off the remaining sons to produce heirs".(1)
Now, "a few years before" means, I think, more like 2-4 years [Hans is 17 in this expert and Caleb's wife is pregnant with a second one here as well] so in my opinion - the oldest may be max. 7 years old during Frozen, but I think more like 5. And it sounds like Caleb was the first of them to have a kid of his own and when a baby was born, everyone got off of the remaining Westergaard's backs with "marry, reproduce, marry, reproduce marryreproducemarryreproduce" nagging. Which "hadn't stopped some of them, of course"(2). I am not sure about this "some", but well, twins are out.
Also, "All of Hans's brothers, except the twins, were now married with children"(3), there is no exception for Lars, but I understand where are you coming from. There:
"(...) any news on when I might become an uncle again? I am hoping your child might like me at least."
Lars laughed. "If Helga has anything to do with it, the only person that child will like is her".(4)
So it looks like, indeed, Lars' kid isn't there yet. But I'd offer a very simple explanation for it, which is not a canon but ties both parts together - I think it may be interpreted as Helga being pregnant with their first one at this time.
All of this said, you do you, of course! If your interpretation is different, let it be, of course. I am just here to blabber about my own headcanons.

Oh, yeah I can absolutely see where you’re coming from! I probably should have checked with a Frozen Heart before making this post, but it was, like, two A.M where I live and admittedly I was feeling kind of lazy.
I think when it comes to the ages of his nieces and nephews it’s definitely a mixed bag, I just think Hans having to put up with a bunch of teenagers is a really funny concept.
Not trying to put anyone down, of course! it’s just an idea I like to play around with in my head.
And I am not trying either! That's why I added the disclaimer, it is to each their own! Maybe some of the other brothers had kids before Caleb did, it is not really clear here. "A Frozen Heart" leaves a lot to interpret for the reader.
And when yes, a bunch of teenagers is scary, well, let's look on my, very proffesional™ spreadsheet I made for my fanfic (happening 6 years after "Frozen" and 3 after "Frozen II"):
And imagine all of those kids swarming at you, I mean, the sheer noise of their existance alone would probably be painful!

Father's day
Hans: Hello everyone, just a quick PSA since it is, apparently, a Father's Day.
Hans: <shows a portrait of the king of the Southern Isles>
Hans: So, if your father is making it pretty clear for you and everyone else that he hates you, you are one big disappointment and you are doing everything wrong on every turn since the day you were born, then my best advice for you would be to put all of your time, effort, all of your patience, diligence and stubbornness...
Hans: <shoves the portrait away, pulls in a new one, of captain Rogers> ...to find yourself a better one because that bitch ain't changing for ya.
Hans: Happy Father's Day 😌
June's writing challenge - Day 11
1989 words today and the border of 600 pages of text was crossed!
And welcome to the real world, Lars, your new friend has briefed you already, but now you are going to see it with your own glasses.
Ok, so I am on a Discord server and we had a small event and we've decided to write little ficlets on the occassion, containing words "frozen", "hearts", "worth", "melting" and I've finally set up a new Ao3 account and couldn't stop myself from getting on an angst train, so here we go:
~ 1200 words, queen Anna being THE Queen Anna with Westergaards (she's to be feared) and also having a truly golden heart.
Prince Lars being himself.
Trolls being local head'n'heart helpers.
Look at Lars being an A+ Big Brother
And look at me when I am giving fun facts about history (alas why is baby Hans wearing a pink dress):
Did you know that well until the XXth century babies of all genders wore dresses? (Because it was way easier for their caretakers)
And also, colours associated with both genders were switched up only after WWII - before, blue was "for girls", as it is Holy Mary's colour and milder version of aggressive, "manly" red - pink - was for boys.
So... Lars.
I don't think I have to introduce him, especially since it isn't his official introduction post (and there will be one).
...I just want to say that this is the best "I am not mad, just dissapointed" face I have ever drawn in my life.
Also I need to practice adding weight to characters, because this man is supposed to be "round".
Grandpa Arnulf and Grandma Biruta
"For the past and for the future".
An old saying from the Southern Isles' says, that there are two kinds of Westergaards: those who descend from Odin (smart ones) and those who descend from Thor (strong ones). Unfortunately, sometimes a Wild Card is drawn - Westergaard, who's appearance in this world was evidently caused by Loki.

Epilouge. Hans has told Anna and Elsa about how the hell did he become a pirate.... right?
“He is lying through his teeth, there is no possibility that this so-called-cat creature…”
“Anna, cats can have their own taste in people, maybe different than ours. But I am curious about something else.”
“Oh?”
“Look, when he was telling us how he and Layla were running to the treasury, then yes, he was telling about prince Hans we know. Too self-confident, too smart for his own good, in every unfortune he sees an opportunity for his own gain. Maybe a little disoriented, but in the end – collected and composed. But when they were running to the ship…”
“Suddenly he was a nervous wreck!” Anna put her cup of tea on a capstan, where they both sat. “You are right. Like he was describing a completely different person!”.
“You know, it is possible that when he got a sack of a stolen gold – stolen from his father, mind you – he finally understood what he is about to do. Or maybe he just got frightened by a fire or noises… but, as for me, he was too terrified for it to only be because of a pirate's attack. Maybe he wasn’t lying… but he definitely didn’t tell us the whole truth."
Fanfic's snippet - How Hans became a pirate, part III
First part here
Second part here
Hans is telling the story of what the hell is he doing here to Anna and Elsa after three years of the events portrayed and from his own perspective, mind you.
After Layla and Bernard managed to get into a huge fight – both verbal and physical – and Bernard called him “a lice-lad” for the first time, he didn’t even know why – it was a time to go.
“Catch!” Layla threw him one of the bags with gold and ordered to run as fast as he can. So he ran, not even feeling the pain of glass splinters in his feet. It wasn’t so bad – for as far as they ran out of the castle. The floor inside were even and hard, or covered in soft carpets. The soil of the Southern Isles was, on the other hand, really treacherous and sharp, especially with no shoes on. He didn’t have them. He didn’t have anything but the pyjamas. There was no time to change.
Fanfic's snippet - How Hans became a pirate, part II
First part here!
Hans is telling the story of what the hell is he doing here to Anna and Elsa after three years of the events portrayed and from his own perspective, mind you.
Layla has agreed on his condition. In her own words – there is no such thing as too many men to work as deckhands. So as for the moment, they were running together towards his father’s study. Everywhere around them an utter chaos unveiled; dozens of pirates running down corridors, stealing without an ounce of shame everything that wasn’t bolted down. And if it was – some of them took crowbars. For a brief moment, Hans caught a glimpse of three of them, freakishly similar to each other, who were just peeling down the tapestry. Very, very rich tapestry. It was complicated, because there were quite a lot of screws and they seemed very wary of destroying the fabric.
But one of the most striking facts was - that almost every one of the luxurious, silver mirrors, which used to paved the walls of Westergaard’s castle, was now shattered. The result – floors were sown with a broken glass. And he was running barefoot.
Sixth in the line - Harald Westergaard - the royal treasurer
If someone hates the Westergaard's family more than Hans does - it's prince Harald. Born 6th, he always had a way with numbers and money - so he could eventually become an unofficial treasurer of the Southern Isles. And since cash is never right in royal families - he became bitter and paranoid. He has a bad habit of accusing everyone around him of theft and/or embezzlement without much proof to support it. It's hard to blame him, though - he is literally betting his head on their funds without much compensation for it. And his brothers always have some financial needs, especially for wars and "border incidents", not really understanding that the money don't just appear out of thin air. He kinda feels like an ATM which must explain itself to its father after any withdrawal.
Harald, like most of Westergaard's brothers, hates their uniform and changes from it every time possible. He likes simple shirts and soft, wollen vests or sweaters. He is also one of the two princes - the other one being Lars - who wears glasses. But when Lars needs them the whole time, Harald only uses them for reading.
He has a wife, Lily and six kids - Bosse (9), Linda (6), Leif (5), Aase (4), Emil (3) and Britta (2). He doesn't wear his ring, because it was one size too small and his finger's blood circulation was nearly cut off. He put a brave face for a whole week after the wedding, then took it off, promised to get it to the jeweler to fix it and, well, if he promised, he promised, "you don't have to remind me every ten years!".
He also likes fishing.
Tea from Hans: despite his well-mannered appearence, Harald still holds the family's record in spitting for distance. For fifteen years no one was able to break it.
Of course, all of it is made up by me, because we know anything about only 5 of the 13 brothers.
Lars: You are a GROWN-ASS ADULT
Hans: and you left me U N S U P E R V I S E D
"Captain's log, July 1st, Tuesday
Today we've encountered a vessel under the Southern Isles' flag - 3-mast, heading for Corona. We saluted them politely and went along to pursuit our own route to the East..."
"Quartermaster's log, July 1st, Tuesday.
After our encounter with the Southern Isles' vessel I went to check on our goods again. I was outraged when I discovered a dreadful mistake in our calculations - turned out, we had 3000 gold coins, 20 barrels of rum and 30 sacks of flour more than we thought! No one wants to admit their mistake, every crewman accuses ghosts of planting additional cargo..."
Both captain's and quartermaster's logs (quartermaster's usually contains a stock inventory) must be presented at a port upon arriving - and it better be accurate if you want to avoid getting arrested. Of course, it is not necessary to describe every moment of ships' life...
Also, let me recommend two totally awesome videos about pirate's life from a perspective of both captain and a quartermaster:
