Venice fashion 1750-1790-ish

I am surprisingly still alive but I come here with a question: do you guys have any tips/ facts, knowledge about fashion (both for men and women) from around 1750-1790 from venice (to be really specific) italy/rest of europe?

Currently doing my internship and I have to do some research about fashion during the life of Casanova and I just know you guys know so much abt historical fashion (I’m watching you guys crafting those robes and corsets, just fenomenal)

(any specific knowledge abt what prostitutes wore, class differences, etc is all welcome)

Hope you guys are doing well <3

Let me just say I saw the update at like 00.00 right when i was about to put away my phone becauses my sleeping scedule is already bad enough but... I just had to read it, so now my sleep is even worse than before but I have 0 regrets at all.

More in depth comment coming on the fic itself soon :)

looks like I got tagged, thank you @captainsigge :)

I had to reverse engineer this from whatever you turned it into sigge xddd My big deadline has finally passed so I can be more active (more active than completely MIA at least) so there will be some comments on the updated fics soon!

Also this took so long I’m embarassed

(nothing is in any particular order)

  1. Pirates of the Caribbean - Norrington, It took me quite a long time to finally watch the last movie but norrington has always been a favorite from the moment I saw him
  2. Star Wars - a tie between Obi wan and Plo koon, ok so I have avoided this franchise like the plague for a long time due to the tendencies of its fans and just... me not really caring much for the plot, too much pew pew and swinging around the place. Honestly, still not a big fan of the material but I’m enjoying the fics so that counts for something.
  3. Transformers mtmte - cyclonus, me having something for stern characters? who could have guessed
  4. Dragon age inquisition - Josephine, pretty lady, i didn’t stand a chance
  5. Hollow knight - Tiso, he’s like a son to me ok. Big mouth and a heart set on winning but he really overestimated himself.
  6. Star trek - Leonard “bones” Mccoy, haven’t seen much of the original series or movies but both versions of mccoy are great
  7. Death Parade - Nona, is there even a fandom for this anime? no clue, but I always wanted her pants.
  8. The mandalorian - Din Djarin, I don’t even have Netflix so all I know is from youtube clips and fic’s
  9. Hornblower - William Bush, once again I have a type and I’m very aware of it
  10. I really got nothing

idk who to tag cause I saw so many of you do this already xd

Hello again, people! I’m pleased to report that the accessory side of the Elizabeth Swann peach gown is now ALSO finished. That’s right, the last few little details have been finished on the matching game bergere hat!

it’s only a little thing, but I absolutely LOVE the hats I’ve made during this project. They’re just so decorative and ornate! You can really let your creativity run wild with them with trimmings, etc, they finish an outfit beautifully - and in this case Penny Rose really spoiled me with the source material to work from. I mean, look at this:

Elizabeth’s is a touch more nude than mine, but as the colours in my gown fabric were a little brighter, the brighter peach ribbon and bias binding suited better.

I.... honestly can’t believe I’ve reached the end of the Elizabeth Swann project, guys ! Lockdown tentatively begins to ease here in the UK soon (touch wood), and... I’ll almost be sad to finish, just because it’s been a project that kept me going and given me goals to reach for. It has definitely been the saving of my mental health during these weird, weird times, no exaggeration.

But I still have the Dead Man’s Chest wedding gown to attempt some time in the future - when I’m insane enough to try it, and that could probably take me into 2022 no problem. And the end of the Elizabeth Swann project certainly won’t mean the end of historical or 18th century sewing for me!

I’m thinking of taking some proper photos of the peach gown once the cherry blossom is out -as I lack a Port Royal fortress to pose decoratively in front of ;-)

Listen, “can’t believe I’ve reached the end of the Elisabeth Swann project” should be used for when you finish a gown and not just her whole wardrobe. Pretty sure the UK lockdown isn’t even about Covid anymore but just to keep you cooped up cause you are too powerful for this world.

You made some amazing decisions with making your hat more colorful, really suits your gown a lot better and if I dare say it, more festive. The colors really make it pop :)

In which judgement is made upon more than one person aboard La Maria; and Theresa begins to ask the right questions…

Posted HORRENDOUSLY late for the monthly deadline - but I’m still going to blame February for not giving me my usual 30-31 days.

aaaaaaaaaAAAAAAAAAAAAH <3 <3 <3

I just want to let yoou know that I’ve read it and love it, rereads will happen in the next days but I’m unable to write a more lenghty comment until next week (deadlines, my nemesis) thank you for the chapter, I could finally put my mind to other things than just college

La Viuda Marina Update:

Aieeeee! Hey guys!

Well… that’s not strictly true. I’m halfway through the new chapter, just…it took a while to figure out the crew politics of this next scene , and..

then I ended up getting distracted by sewing, so…

Apologies, everyone! New chapter coming to AO3 by next week, I SWEAR.

and a shout out to the every lovely @tockamybeloved for getting my writing butt into gear and helping me figure things out.

jk, take all the time you need :)

now I know that I don’t have to break that refresh button anymore xDDD

Dead Men Tell No Tales: A Looksie Through Spanish Lens

…a.k.a how researching the traje de luces (the “suit of lights”) and the world of the Spanish corrida brought me to re-evaluate the whole fifth movie of the Pirates of the Caribbean series under a different light.

Obviously most of the credit regarding this analysis goes to Javier Bardem himself (Captain Salazar) who, with several statements during interviews, has disclosed on how much his culture influenced and shaped the character of El Matador Del Mar. Which, for those who don’t know, wasn’t even the original idea of the villain in the first scripts for Dead Men Tell No Tales. Believe it or not, back in the day the main antagonist who’d have to face Jack Sparrow in order to exact revenge was not a Spanish captain, but first a woman (that later became simply Shansa), then an English pirate hunter known as Captain John Brand (and that’s a whole messy can of worms which we will not discuss here. If you wish to read yourself a version of what the movie could have been like, go ahead).

The idea of changing the whole nature and design of the villain so drastically came apparently right after Bardem’s successfully landed audition. We don’t know for certain how much of the Spanish side of the movie was prompted and perfected by Javier (and maybe Juan Carlos Vellido, too) and how much instead was decided by the directors and screenwriters. But we get an interesting array of visible or more subtle elements that lead back to the world of bullfighting, where the character of Armando Salazar shifts from the powerful position of matador to the rage-filled lunge of the toro.

[WARNING: the following text contains images of bullfights, and although the author tried their damn best to keep it as tame and gore-limited as possible, this remains to be a blood-sport, so the content can’t be helped but be possibly distressing. Continue with caution at your own discretion.]

ooooooh man the amount of research you put into this. I love the paralels you have found and explained them so well!!! <3 <3 <3

My first attempt at making a domed 3D model, this is supposed to be a button. (Without the shank because I'd add it later in the resin stage :P) Inspired by a Phillip V 1723 coin.

Why would I be making a button you ask. Well thank you for asking.😌 Because The Uniforms are bane of my existence of course.

Who gave you the right???

It would probably take at least 50ish buttons for the coat and I don't know about you but I'd rather not spend 100+ € on buttons. Not when I can make them myself. Would they be the same quality? Probably not the same as solid metal buttons but I do think resin can compete with some plastic ones. If only the coat didn't have so many buttons. :/

I now realize I haven't told you what I'm planning. Whoops. Okay, some of you may know I'm going to make a stay, which made me think of making some pirate shirts and pants aaaaannddd then I realized I had a nice thick wool fabric that could make a nice coat and that's how I want to also make a Salazar style coat. :D (Yes I am stealing the most renowned Pirate Hunter's coat for my Pirate Outfit and if that isn't the Ultimate Pirate Move then I don't know what to tell you 😜)

For the white "stripes" I'm most likely going to use a cotton twill tape (thank you @montmartre-parapluie) because I'm a little unsure where I could get my hands on this kind of trim. Never seen a pattern like it before so it might have been made specifically for the film. (Also why do I keep finding all these good photos of the bloody medals NOW and not when I was researching them???? Smh Google is a traitor)

I will not be making the uh shoulder thingys (sorry @acidyellowlava forgot what they were called again) and the medals since I don't want people to stare too much at me, just enough 😌💅✨ kidding kidding

I have ordered the pattern (thank you so much again @montmartre-parapluie I'd be lost without you) but not any cotton tape since I am slightly unsure about the width of them. I'm thinking that the widest is probably 40mm? But I could be wrong so I want to make the coat first and then eyeball the sizes of the different tapes. Same for the buttons. I believe they are 25mm (I doubt they are as large as 30mm but I could be wrong).

I have 3m of the black wool (1.5 m wide), which according to the pattern should be enough. But since I'm not exactly short I'm a little Suspicious 👀 However I could always order more but hopefully it won't come to that!

The first month of 2021 isn't over and I've already planned my whole year full😂 oh well, it's worth it! I'm probably going to make the coat last, hopefully I'll have gotten enough practice from the other stuff by then so that I can do it justice and make Salazar mad.😌

Enough rambling for now, hope you all are staying safe.❤️

At this point I shouldn't be surprised anymore but I am, just the sheer amount of effort, time and skill that you put into your works ❤️❤️❤️

;;itty bitty tiny glimpse of Javier BTS, in incomplete costuming. Gives an idea of what Salazar might have looked like chilling in his quarters minus uniform coat/waistcoat. That’s fun, I like seeing that. And the fact that his shirt is a bit diaphanous so you can probably see a bit of his chest and arms LOOOL
