the wondrous garden of giants, big island.
just found this on our snapshot cam. lars took some really cool pics of his missy in action on mauna kea.
farewell from hawaii with burning cheeks!
then like a curtain the clouds rolled in.
too bad we did not get to do some stargazing, as mauna kea is one of the best spots on this planet to watch the night sky (due to the high elevation and lack of light/air pollution on hawaii, the earth’s most secluded archipelago).
i guess that would’ve been too much beauty to take in on a single day anyways, mh?
nightfall at 4.200 m / 13.800 ft above sea level. on top of mauna kea it's freezing cold - but oh so pretty!
(the wind was frigid! we wore all the clothes we brought to hawaii at once, in layers. so glad i brought my diving gloves, too: i doubt i could have taken these pics without them, at least not without frostbites!)
sunset from above the clouds. well, that was a first for us.
such a sublime experience!
dreamscape of mauna kea. our second visit to otherworld.
it exists only on hawaiian craters (here: haleakala on maui).
mauna kea -
standing 13,803 ft (4,207 m) above sea level in the middle of the pacific.
from sea to sky in less than an hour.
