Bookish and Clever Deals

Dudes and dudettes, do we have some deals for you today. First off, we have the Cuisinart Griddler, which Selena and Sally J. think is the coolest thing since sliced bread. According to Selena, you can use it to COOK ALL THE THINGS. Allie Brosh would be a fan.

Next up, we have a limited edition Star Wars lunchbox. Sure, lunchboxes are generally aimed toward kids, but there is no reason why you can't have one, too. YOU ARE AN ADULT, AND YOU DO WHAT YOU WANT. That includes carrying a Star Wars lunchbox. May the force be with you.

We also have a pretty fab deal on lipgloss from Sephora – just $3! We're thinking stocking stuffers, and you don't even have to leave the house to buy them. We understand; leaving the house would mean putting on pants, and who wants to do that?

We have a couple other deals for you, too – why don't you check them out our Bookish and Clever Deals sidebar widget?

We have some pretty fancy deals for you today that will last through the weekend. First up, we have two pairs of killer boots that will complete your zombie apocalypse uniform. For our Star Wars and gaming geeks, we have LEGO Star Wars III for the Nintendo 3DS for a pretty low price; it’s a freaking awesome game, and now you can carry it with you wherever you go! For our culinary-inclined readers, we have one of those nifty straining stockpots on the cheap. It will come in handy for all that soup you’ll be making this winter! Check out our other deals in our Bookish and Clever Deals widget in our sidebar.

Today we have some pretty good deals lined up. If you're still dreaming of summer, there is an adorable pair of Lilly Pulitzer espadrilles for way off retail cost (and it's a good investment; one of our editors has a pair and they've lasted forever). We have a deal for up to 75% off sale items at the popular discount fashion website 6pm.com, as well as continued discounts on awesome activities in your area from Goldstar.com. We also still have the very super fancy Margaritaville drink blender available for wayyy off retail cost. This beast is amazing, and Selena’s suggestion for cranberry margs for Thanksgiving is right up our alley. Get ‘em while they’re hot!

We have a pretty delicious deal on M&Ms, too — you get like five pounds of them for $10! It may sound excessive, but really, it's the holidays: you'll have family in and out of your home for months; put those babies in bowls throughout the house, and people will be snacking on them all winter long. We also still have the very super fancy Margaritaville drink blender available for wayyy off retail cost. So, Selena outdid herself on today's bookish and clever deals. For one, you get a second chance to be a unicorn with the fancy rainbow projector. Second, remember SaraB.'s article on Zumba yesterday? Well thanks to that, we now have a very special deal on a Zumba game for Xbox — yay! And we also have this super-adorable pair of leopard-print flats. Pair them with a short dress and black tights, and you'll be looking super-fly. There are a couple other deals, but you'll have to go to the site to see them. What are you waiting for? Check out P-Mag's daily deals!

Today we're featuring a pretty broad assortment of deals in our little widget. We have a fancy Cuisinart food processor marked way down; it's getting to be soup and stew season, and do you know how much of a pain it is to chop onions into itty, bitty pieces with a knife? I wish I could kiss the person who invented the food processor; it saves my sanity (ONIONS ARE ROUND. AND THEY ROLL. AND GET EVERYWHERE.) and my super-sensitive eyes.

We also have a pretty awesome makeup kit for just $10 that's perfect for smokey eyes; you can wow everyone with your makeup prowess at your company holiday party this season.

OH. AND. THERE IS A RAINBOW PROJECTOR. Yes, you read that correctly: a thing that projects rainbows. The only way it could be better is if it was shaped like a unicorn and the rainbows came out its butt. As such:

Your Top 3 Favorite Posts from 11/7/2011

Hello, Persephoneers! Here is a round up of the three most popular posts according to hits from Friday, in case you missed them:

The mythology of the BFF, sometimes Best Friends Forever, but in this context, Best Female Friend, is almost as deeply ingrained for me as the mythology of the soul mate, or the one and only romantic partner for you forever and ever until death do you part, Amen. Honestly, I don’t believe in either, but that doesn’t stop me from occasionally feeling as if I am somehow failing at Being a Lady Person 101 because I don’t have a single lady friend, or a single lady friend group, who will loan me clothes, nurse me back to health, tell me my ass looks fat in the sequined skirt I really really really am desperately in love with but maybe only because it’s marked down to ten dollars at T. J. Maxx and it’s shiny, and whose approval I require on my romantic partnerings.
When I got back to New York, I had lost more weight, and everyone was excited for me. My hair was also thinner, and I’m not sure it ever really recovered.

I remember, at the time, feeling happy to have lost more weight, but sad that no one seemed to mind that I did it in a really unhealthy way. I thought, if I had gone to Prague a size 2 and come back a size 0, they might have considered getting me some help for an eating disorder, but leaving a size 14/16 and coming back a 12/14 was considered a great accomplishment.

Every once in a very long time, I come across a recipe that looks suspiciously like it might be awful, and to my complete surprise, it ends up being phenomenally good. Tomato Soup Cake was one of those instances.

Doesn’t making a cake with tomato soup seem like a bad idea? It isn’t just me, is it? Because I thought Tomato Soup Cake would taste like marinara sauce with frosting on top. Instead, the ingredients magically transform into a moist and delicious spice cake, which I swear tastes nothing like tomato soup.

Happy reading!
