on the topic of taash, i find qunari gender among the qun to be so interesting, as it is tied to your role in society rather than your role in society being tied to your gender. inquisition already established words for transgender people among the qun. even origins talks about gender in regards to the qunari, sten is confused by the warden if they're a woman.

da:tv could have explored taash's gender in regards to their cultures in so many interesting and respectful ways. they didn't have to make them come out to their mother awkwardly and then pick between two cultures they're a part of.

i was very excited to see another nonbinary character playing a big role in a video game. but i think taash's story wasn't handled well and bioware missed a big opportunity to explore gender in the qun, which would have been interesting to see.

me: i sure hope the crows are not gonna be solely depicted in veilguard as a brave force who 'fight for all' when they are at their core a criminal organization who is known to buy children to indoctrinate them and turn them into assassins, by putting them in overcrowded warehouses and making them fight for scrapes in order not to starve, to later torture those who reach adulthood to finish their initiations and kill them anyways if they dare to try getting out

bioware: i cooka da pizza

Would you care to elaborate on how Taash's gender was handled? I don't have a way of playing the game myself, and also don't really understand your settler comment. (This is genuine, I want to understand it, but do not think I could if I just looked up the game content myself.)

I mean Weekes very clearly wrote Taash through their lens as a settler (a white person living on stolen land), and did so with ZERO consideration for the cultural aspects of Taash's story.

Like, Rook literally is forced to choose "Encourage Taash to pursue their Rivaini culture" or "Encourage Taash to pursue their Qunari heritage" in one scene for example. And the dialogue is this: "Did your mother want you to be a Qunari who happened to live in Rivain, or a Rivaini person who happened to be Qunari?" And that is such a western colonial mindset! Taash doesn't have to choose shit, Taash can have both!

But yay, Taash is non-binary, so we're supposed to pretend their gender means more than their culture, because of course the two are always separate, right? //sarcasm
