It makes me sad to write this but I will not be doing #inktober2019 ... between RSI recovery and other projects I’ve decided not to participate this year. I don’t know about you but I’m so sick of that omnipresent association of sports/fitness with weight loss as the ultimate goal.

(PS: I’m not sure how efficient punching people is for building muscle mass but I’m afraid she’s had a lot of opportunities so I guess four pounds is probably realistic?)

I wish… I WISH I could somehow reblog this HARDER and with MORE LOVE.  Sorry to put more non-art stuff in my main tumblr here, but goddamn I feel this so hard.  I’ve been hitting the gym with the goal of making a good habit, so that when winter comes around and the inevitable S.A.D. creeps back into my life, I’m more likely to get some exercise as a coping mechanism just out of habit.  I’m also weightlifting because I want to get strong (like ox, you might say). 

I do not care if I lose weight, I’m not keeping track of my pounds, and if I stay chubby but get stronger I will be just as fucking happy.  So glad I found this comic, and so glad I found your art Ephi!  New watcher ahoy!  <3

I did actually start working out with the vague thought of losing weight. As soon as I started, my weight became the last thing I cared about.

I gained 2 kilos and a couple of cm on each thigh on the routine the gym trainer gave me. I gained so much energy, stamina, immune resistance. I stopped gasping for breath while running for the bus or climbing the stairs. I watched my shoulders change shape, watched new muscle shapes appear, watched my thigh gap close. I can flex my trapezius muscles until I look like the Hulk. (Okay, a very short Hulk.) And compared to some of my (female) gym buddies, I am a limp bundle of noodles whose fitness goal is to do a single chin-up.

My grandmother complained ‘Why aren’t you getting thinner? You need to stop eating so much.’ My aunt said ‘How come you’ve been doing this for months now and your stomach is still so fat?’ My other aunt said ‘Fitness is good, but why do you keep doing weights? You’re going to look like a man.’ My mom, on the other hand, is super proud and keeps sending me peanut butter and chocolate protein stuff to put in my shakes.

I don’t know where I’m going with this except to say: Fuck your #thinspo. If you lose weight exercising and that makes you healthy & happy, that’s great, that’s how your body works. Not us. We’re bigger and badder and we fucking love it.

“You have some really specific riders in your contracts, don’t you?”

“I just like it to be clear from the start what I want and need. I mean I don’t include everything.”

“What do you leave out?”

“I never make it a requirement that they have to let me leave food around the set. I just do it whether they want me to or not.”

“So you could just improvise a vault at some point in the filming, right?”

“Yeah but I want to make sure it doesn’t end up on the cutting room floor. I’m too old to go vaulting shit for no reason.”

Mmm, new fitness goals. Actually this has been a fitness goal since I read it in a Louisa May Alcott book, where a sweet young lady who is a bit prissy in every other way gets new long johns and leaps a couch and people are proud of her for doing it.
