I haven’t seen it yet, and I don’t think I should till I finish this chapter. Beginning today this fic will probably not be canon compliant. Still, to celebrate the new season, have a preview of chapter 3! (Thanks again to @mongoose-bite and @narwhalthegreat for cheering me on with this fic!)

There’s a lot of talking in this chapter! Some things happen? More will happen soon, I promise. Also, I deleted about 4K words and had to rewrite it practically at the last minute because it was so clunky. How do people do this regularly?

Allura was sure her eyes were as big as saucers as Kolivan made his confession, looking at the way his fingers ran through her hair rather than meeting her gaze.
“Why didn’t you say anything?”
“What could I have possibly said that you’d have wanted to hear?” he asked. “It would have been very inappropriate, and nothing but another burden you’d be obliged to answer. Was I wrong?”
“No,” she admitted. It would have baffled and worried her; romance was the last thing on her mind at the time.

I was watching the 2nd episode (Some Assembly Required) again, and it made me laugh so hard. Allura is a really mean trainer!
Poor kids are aiming their heavy hitters at Kolivan and leaving one side wide open. Kolivan won’t have to do any more than block their hits. Allura will not only disarm them all but yell at them afterward about how she could have beat them when she was ten. And she’d thought the Paladins were weak.
Weak? The Paladins of Voltron?
Decaphebes of spy training come to Kolivan’s rescue and he remains impassive. It’s very hard to be intimidating with hearts in your eyes.

literally one of my favorite romance tropes of all time is character a is a really notorious gang leader/well known feared ruler of some kind etc and no one dares cross them or talk back to them etc because they won’t make it out alive but character b can literally get away with saying whatever they want and everyone knows it’s because they have character a wrapped around their finger and character a is gentle with character b and everyone wouldn’t dare laying a finger on character b because then character a would literally chop their head off

To be fair I prefer the version in which character b might look sweet and frail compared to character a but can ALSO chop your head off
Random headcanon I vomited out while working on the Allurivan fic:
Whenever he can get a moment to himself after landing on a planet, Kolivan goes on a run that starts like a normal jog and ends with him racing on all fours and often shirtless. He and Antok used to do this to blow off steam when they couldn’t sit still and were too excited or upset to spar.

I haven’t felt this fired up to write a longfic in years, but the same thing is happening as last time, when I start writing with a PLAN and then it spirals out of control.
So I started writing Allurivan romcom but in the interest of getting them there, I accidentally Sheith space opera? And in the process wrote the Voltron ending I didn’t know I wanted?

Fuck it, I am going to WRITE the Allurivan Princess Diaries/Beauty and the Beast post-war chivalric romance comedy of my dreams! Sometimes you just have to be a fandom of one. Also I really want to draw Kolivan in Altean formal wear and Allura in more than one dress.
