JUST hit me that Legato and Vash and colored as opposites (yellow hair/pale skin/blue eyes - blue hair/darker skin/yellow eyes) 🤦♂️
The Gung Ho Guns will now decide your fate.
My end of the year piece is here: collectable Baseball Cards!
I first started on this series about three weeks ago. I wanted to give them different positions and poses, but I'm not really good at dynamic poses so I struggled. Taking three weeks got them to have slightly different level of detail... When I first started with Vahs, I aimed for simple looks, but I ended up with quite detailed finish on Legato. But I don't want to re-do Vash, so guess I have to live with it ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I'm thinking of getting them printed for real. But before that I want to tweak the lightings a bit, so not sure when that would be.
Anyways thank you all for following me and liking my arts! YOROSHIKU for the next year 🥰
I do see the glaring serpent-analogies in Legato (the weirdass tongue, the loss of his limbs as punishment, the eternal enemy of man/Vash) but I just have no idea what to make of them
"legato seems like the type to have a sister" yeah its elendira????
this is the skin of a killer, legato
I don't know for sure how many of these are actual parallels and which I just made up but
Here's a list of all biblical references I remember in Trigun
Ok I have a suggestion of a reference here since many people like to call Wolfwood Judas, looking for peer review lol.
We get two Jesus-figures in Trigun, and one of them is obviously Vash. But the twelve disciples are the Gung Ho Guns, which means there is a second Jesus-figure they are following. It would be easy to say that figure is Knives, but I disagree - I think it's Legato.
Reasons:
- He is never given a number, in other words, not considered a disciple despite being the most devoted one.
- He is shown as the one to interact with and actually command the GHGs
- He was found chained with his hands to a Y-shaped pole, which is quite similar in imagery to Jesus on the Cross
- He is the natural foil to Vash
This makes Knives either God or the Holy Spirit, which I think fits better with his role. BUT it also means Wolfwood DOES get his Judas moment - because when he busts Vash out of the ark, it's not Knives he's going up against, it's Legato who is keeping Vash captured. And how exactly does he take out Legato?
He shoots him in the back (a classic imagery of betrayal)
I could never quite fit WW as Judas to Vash's Jesus, because it didn't just quite fit compared to all the others. But like this it fits very well
Just when you think Legato deserves rights you remember the scene of him eating
All of the people Knives keep around are societal outcasts (apart from the one person he knew before the fall who had accepted him as a plant) and that is definitely not an accident in storytelling. You see right??? Knives is a metaphor of the trauma that comes from being different than the norm. They all are those that understand the fear and righteous anger and need to act out of self preservation:
- Domenique: half blind/gender nonconforming
- Elendira: transwoman
- Ninelives: dwarfism
- Hoppered: physically disfigured & disabled
- Legato: former sexworker (well not worker but the stigma is the same)
- Zazie: literally changes between bodies with no regards for gender or ethnicity, nonhuman
- Leonof: man has issues (holding on to his dead love)
- Livio: Dissociative Identify Disorder
- Rei-Dei: part of a people that are long gone
- Chapel: paraplegic
- Midvalley: saxplayer 😔
eldest child of 30 nico vs. only child legato go
I know a lot of sexual terms like slut or whore or whatever is (affectionate) but using them for Legato is kinda :///
Yeah Knives doesn't believe Legato could kill Vash no matter what and obviously the plants are technically stronger being able to literally erase things out if existence but I honestly disagree I think Vash was disturbingly powerless under Legato's control and it didn't appear to trigger his plant self defense. I think he could have taken out both of them.
For all the appreciation of Vash's (lack of) arm, you know there's a lot less talk about how Legato is completely paralyzed below the neck and in (the weirdest) fullbody brace for a good 85% of the comic.
Partially because no one wants to be represented by Legato, but still- very rare for "ugly" disabilities to be shown at all, particularly in a main cast, and ESPECIALLY portrayed as one of (if not honestly THE) most powerful character in the series.
i’m not saying that “wolfwood is vash’s narrative foil” is WRONG but also. look.
the plot of trimax is so funny when you realize that legato is like “Vash is my Mortal Enemy I Must Kill Him At All Costs It’s The Only Way Knives Will Acknowledge Me, No Plan is Too Complex I Will Devote My Every Waking Hour to Preparing His Demise” and at the same time Knives is on the phone w Wolfwood like “hey man, yeah there’s this guy following me around who keeps trying to kill my brother, i’m not gonna tell him to stop because that would really hurt his feelings but you gotta make sure he doesn’t do that.”
