Chas with the hand gestures and the attitude on her face in that preview was so similar to my own mother I almost sent myself to my room out of habit. Jesus.
It’s a sarong. You better not have gotten me one of them.
I wrote this super quick, so please forgive any typos.
The next morning, Liv burst into the backroom of the pub, interrupting Chas and Vic who were going over the staffing rota for the pub. “What’s wrong with your stupid brother?!” Liv snapped.
“I’m sorry, that could cover a whole load of things,” Vic said. “What’s he done now?”
“He’s been a right miserable grump,” Liv said. “He had a face on him all night, just because he was being stubborn and he wouldn’t go out with Aaron!”
“Well… Robert did have plans,” Vic started.
“No, Aaron had plans,” Liv said scowling at her.
“Shall we all just calm down?” Chas suggested, way too sweetly. Both Vic and Liv looked at her as she put the kettle on for a brew.
“You know, don’t you?” Liv said to Chas. “Did Aaron tell you?”
“Aaron tell her what?” Vic said. “No, Robert’s the…” The three women looked at each other, wondering what they’d missed.
“Yes,” Chas said slowly. “Aaron did tell me. But… Robert also told me.”
“Robert doesn’t know,” Liv said.
“Yeah, he kinda does,” Chas said. “Apparently those two are both so in tune with each other, they both decided to propose… at the same time.”
“Aaron’s proposing?” Vic said, eagerly.
“Robert can’t be!” Liv snapped, looking horrified.
“Well, they both are,” Chas said. “Aaron told me, then about two hours later, Robert came in asking for my blessing,” she added. “God knows who’s going to get there first.”
“But… Aaron would have done it yesterday, but Robert got all moody about not being able to go to this bar,” Liv said.
“Yeah, er… they were never going to a bar,” Vic said. “Robert was just using that as a distraction, a cover.
“What’s Robert got planned?” Liv asked, for the first time losing her irritation and sounding interested.
“The side of the road somewhere out of the village,” Vic said before rolling her eyes playfully. “Apparently their first kiss was legendary.”
“A layby,” Liv supplied, grinning to herself. “They are hopeless! That’s exactly where Aaron was planning to go last night.”
“You are joking,” Chas said, not having known how Aaron was planning on doing it. “They both planned the same place? God, there’s no hope for them is there. Why didn’t one of them manage it then?”
“Because they were both stubbornly trying to stick to their own plans and ignore each others so everything could be perfect,” Liv said, it now dawning on her why Robert was so determined to avoid the fair.
“We’ve got to fix this,” Vic said. “Robert seemed really sad last night, he thinks Aaron might say no.”
“What do you want to do then?” Chas asked with a grin as the three of them sat down to plot.
I thought you said you were having a laugh? I know. I lied.
