“Calliope!” the dolphin trainer blows his whistle and tosses a red ball in the air.

Callie swims up and balances the sphere on the tip of her nose as she swims across the pool on her tail. It had been a long day of training but she tries her best to keep herself above the water to get her reward.

“Good girl!” the human pats her head and brings out the bucket of fish. He tosses a few into her mouth and watches her consume them. “You’ve been such a good girl, here… have the rest of the bucket.”

Callie does a quiet cheer and opens her jaw to let the trainer dump the contents into her mouth. Quickly swimming away, she swims to the bottom of the pool where another dolphin lay.

Arizona never left her spot. She only went up to get air through her breathing hole, ever since she got caught in a broken pool drain and lost part of her fin.

Callie nudges her pool mate’s side and purrs. But Arizona simply blows bubbles and remains still. Callie presses her nose against Arizona’s and opens her mouth to let the fish float out. Arizona wiggles her tail and kisses Callie before snacking on the treats her friend had brought her. Ever since her injury, the other dolphins in the pool simply ignored her. But Callie always tried to cheer her up. 

Callie watches happily as her friend ate. Lost in her dolphin thoughts, she remembers the place she used to live before they caught her. Where the water was clear and you could swim as far as the eye could see. Then it hit her. Quickly explaining her plan to Arizona, she gets the other dolphin to comply.

As the sun begins to set, Callie and Arizona swim up to the surface of the pool. The ocean was a mere meters away, but it was still risky. Especially for Arizona. But they would risk their lives for a shot at being free together.

Swimming backwards, Callie nods her head at Arizona. Arizona squeaks back and swims behind her partner. Callie begins to swim and Arizona tries her best to keep up with her. Building speed towards the pool wall, Callie jumps over the concrete and supports Arizona on her back as the two jump over the sunset.

They make it over the wall and swim into the ocean as free dolphins.

according to hetero dating law the girl shouldn’t pay for her meal which, logically, means that if two girls go on a date together nobody pays and they get everything for free but the catch is that they have to stand the whole time bc no one can pull out a chair
