Fic Masterlist Don't let yourself be fooled by the title, this is for Rumbelle, though I can easily be persuaded to tell stories of my rats.

August 1, guys. At Target.

I am ALL OVER THIS.

"Gargoyles was originally released back in 1994 and ran for 78 episodes (three seasons). The show focused on a group of Scottish gargoyles that had been resurrected in New York City and had to deal with both the shock of living in the modern world and various supernatural enemies and threats. The titular gargoyles would turn to stone during the day but come to life to save the world at night with their human pal Elisa. The show was revered for its awesome world-building but was cancelled by Disney in 1997. While fans have been eager for a reboot, this game is the next best thing."

If you don't know about this show, you are missing WAY too much goodness. I've got a post out there about it, I won't rehash, I'll just add the link here.

Reasons you should be watching Gargoyles.

  1. Greg Weisman gave more thought to his characters than anyone on any show. Ever. When the show ended and he continued in comic books, he mentally cast voice actors to have an idea how the characters would be. In comic books. Do you know how many lines a character has in a comic book?
  2. Shakespeare. It is everywhere and it it lovely.
  3. Beauty and the Beast. The TV show and the movie and the theme. The love between Goliath and Elisa is perfect.
  4. Star Trek. Whatever series is your favorite from the Original to Voyager you will have at least one cast member to swoon over. TNG does get the most.
  5. Shakespeare. Trek combines with Shakespeare. Spoilers. Watch, you'll see.
  6. John Rhys-Davies as Macbeth.
  7. Did I mention Shakespeare?
  8. The whole freaking cast! And I'm talking guest stars, too. You have some wonderful actors in this. I'm not making a list, because it would include just about everyone. IMDB is a useful tool.
  9. LGBTQ! The wonderful Greg Weisman confirmed Lexington and Amp (from the comics) as gay.
  10. Amazing storytelling. I mean yeah, it is very comic superhero with lots of tech. Iron Man meets the Borg with genetic mutations and magic thrown in. But Shakespeare!
  11. Culture. More culture is thought out about these characters than you will see elsewhere.
  12. Plots thought through. Oncers will not have Once-Like problems here.
  13. Magic and the modern world in comic form.
  14. Shakespeare meets Avalon.
  15. The handsome guy doesn't always get the girl. Broadway, the gargoyle with a nice sized belly and love of food is the only male outside of Goliath that gets an on-screen love interest. The handsome hunk Brooklyn finds his love in the comics.
  16. Comics are cannon. Because Greg Weisman wrote them to continue his vision of things, you can read and enjoy knowing that what you see WAS the next season.
  17. Greg Weisman. Starting and ending here. This man. And his love for Shakespeare and great storytelling.
