Comforting Autumn Senses
Sounds: the rustle of leaves, wind howling through branches, the cawing of crows, the dragging of boots through fallen leaves, the honking of geese flying away, the crackle of a fire, the rumble of far off thunder, the pattering of rain on a window
Smells: the smoke of a far off fire, the baking of treats, scented candles, warm apple cider, the wet leaves & earth after a rain, hints of cinnamon, seasonal clothes pulled out of storage, old books, new books, an old hoodie, home
Tastes: pumpkin spice, coffee in the morning, ginger snaps, apple pie, whoopie pies, pumpkin bread, apple cider, hot cocoa, candy corn, cinnamon sprinkled on everything, home made bread and butter
Sights: a spooky movie, the burnt orange, crimson, and muted yellow leaves, a perfectly still & grey sky, a pumpkin patch, a field of corn, a football game on the television, a black crow, a black cat, the slow shift of everything in stores to autumn colors, a burning candle, pink cheeks & noses, your breath on a chilly morning, the first frost
Feelings: a soft scarf around your neck, a leaf crunching under foot, a pet’s fur, a fuzzy blanket, the warmth of a fire, the pages of an old book, your favorite sweater, walking inside a warm & bright house, warmth spreading through your body after the first sip of a hot drink, a cool breeze blowing through your hair, and the complete and utter peace of feeling autumn inside your soul
