I lived with incredibly painful periods until I was 31. I had ultrasounds and tests. I have history of uterine cancer and endo in my immediate family. I was told there was nothing to be done. I randomly got reassigned to a new doctor for my yearly PAP smear and she tried to get me to open up about my issues/symptoms and I told her “why? You won’t listen either.”

I’m thankful for her patience because all she said was…“humor me.” She redid all my tests and found out not only was my uterus UPSIDE DOWN and BLEEDING into my body cavity which caused my body to freak out and attack it’s own tissue…my previous doctor saw this on the ultrasound 4 years ago and told me “everything was fine.” She held my hand and said, “You’re not crazy. Would you like me to do a hysterectomy?”

I sobbed.

I know it’s hard. I know its exhausting. I know its expensive and wrong and shouldnt be this way and I got lucky. But if someone won’t listen, fuck them. If you are able to…try a new doctor. Listening to you is their literal job and you don’t owe them SHIT.
