The last few times we've been in the park we've come with foods (like defrosted corn and/or peas), so today we were very honoured that the moorhen got its babies out of the water and onto the path, all with their big goofy feet 🥲😍 they're so soft and gentle-looking, I bet if you had vegetables or seeds in your hand, they would pop em right from you 🥰
Heron moment whomst can spot him
I went outside today and found the hedgehog balled up and injured! I thought he was dead at first but I quickly realized he was breathing so I got him into a box and called the RSPCA. They’ll be along at some point to pick hin up but meanwhile I’ve got some water and mealworms in for him and he’s currently having a big snack so that’s a good sign. Fingers crossed for this little lad!
Good news - they just came and picked him up now and I’m pretty certain he’s gonna be OK! He was a bit thin and had a cut on his head but he perked up quite a lot after eating and drinking :3
We got a message from Pastrydad's parents asking what to do, because they'd found another struggling hedgehog in the garden!
Supposedly he wasn't moving and didn't have any obvious injuries, but was very hissy! It's probably preferable to have a little hissy guy, than to have one that's too exhausted to try defending himself. I gave them the number to phone for sick/injured hedgehogs (UK 03000 999 999) that we used last time, and they came along and picked him up later that day :)
Fox on fox violence right outside my own window?! I shouldn't have talked over their yelling, I just really wanted them to break it up 😅
Cute little guys from the park!
Oh, hey there lil dude
Peeped a lil dude
This year's first sighting of The Lad! He looks nice and plump still 😄 We threw some food out - of course us moving around spooked him a little - but now that we know he's up again we can start putting out bugs and stuff in his bowl!
He was taking stale bread from the grass and scrunching it over on the stone for nice bite-size pieces. Very good!
Also we gave her sugar water earlier today, as she was quite lethargic, but when I came back outside later she was romping around all over the place. Just a huge cutie, she sat on my shoe cleaning herself for a long time - I hope it all goes well for her!
She came up into my shoe and had a nap 😅 She couldn't quite fly and seemed to be looking for somewhere to burrow so I very carefully made my way over to a nice flowery bush that's had bumble nests around it in the past
