The heat in Lorule had been increasing slowly for weeks now, and it was starting to become unbearable. It was as if her entire kingdom had been reduced to nothing but a crumbling desert, and the worst part was that she’d somehow come to inherit this. How long Lorule had been falling apart was unbeknownst to her, but they’d passed it on anyway and gave her very little guidance on what to do with it. Her parents had long since disappeared. She didn’t know if they died, ran off, or strayed too close to the people that’d lost all faith in them, but they never came back. She was left with scorching sands, disassembled buildings, and ruins of a once powerful nation.
Princess Hilda gently set her cup back in its saucer, her eyes never leaving the sad sight outside of her window. Perhaps the worst part of all of this was that she was shouldering this alone. She didn’t have to, but she’d chosen to as soon as those regretted words left her mouth.
