Hi ! Your October posts were deliciously intricate and well written ! They all kept me on edge, had a subtle balance of action with emotional hurt like we love it. I have a question, if I may ?
In the pretties AU: what would’ve happened to Link and Zelda if they went through the process « normally »?
Hi! Thank you so much omg and I'm so sorry it took me so long to get around to this. I had to actually think about it lol!
So, in this AU, it's sort of portrayed that they're just trying to make a race of perfect Hylians in order to call the Goddess back to them. What they're actually trying to do is somehow even more messed up: they want to sort of recreate Hylia and her Hero, because they believe if they were to revive those too, they could also revive Demise and change the outcome of that ancient war.
There are very subtle methods of brainwashing in New Hyrule that you really have to look at to notice and be aware of, so a lot of people never catch on. They just get sucked into that life of glamour and control. Link and Zelda, on the other hand, being Link and Zelda, are the closest they've gotten in physicality, but they were clever. They had a drive and a determination to hold onto that drive that the rest of the population was lacking. Zelda wanted to learn and when she was denied that, she figured she had something even bigger to crack. Link was stubborn in his insistence that he didn't want to become a part of this messed up culture, so he was alert from the very beginning. Had they not noticed and been brainwashed like the rest of the population, they would've ended up part of a ritualistic sacrifice that New Hyrule believed would open their bodies up as vessels to the ancient souls. SO! Nothing good!
I hope that makes sense. It's hard turning a vision into words!!
