Hi!

Thought I should make one of those nice pinned posts :D

I'm Michelle (she/her/they)

I live in Australia - I make things with needle and thread, and I walk in the wild. I have degrees in science and education, and do freelance STEM education writing/consulting.

I make strange little things in textiles and beads, I sell the objects I make in a local store. I also have a small webshop where I sell a small number of objects and I have a couple of online workshops and some downloadable tutorials and patterns.

My favourite makes from 2023: #pardalote's top 20 makes for 2023

All my recent posts are my own work. All my nature photos are from my hiking adventures and are my own photos.

I'm currently open for commissions. Note that I'm in Aus, so postage times and costs might be a factor for you. My commission process varies according to the size and complexity of the work, but always includes at least half up-front payment. My most common commission pieces are my beetles, which I've sent all over the world to new homes in the UK, Europe, US and even Borneo!

Asks are always open.

Washed out.

A smallish, squarish beaded object.

Six pieces of recent work. Trying to keep things stitched down, coping with uncertainty.

I love your work! Your creatures are spectacular. Thank you for creating them and sharing them here. I am smiling as I type. Hurray!

Yay thank you! It's great to be making weird things again :D

Light at the end of someone else's tunnel.

I keep stitching things down. Maybe they'll stay where I put them.

Finding the way. Another stitched thing.

Another stitched creature, letting the river carry me away.

A small creature I made this week.

Thanks to folks who have checked in to see how I am going. I'm dealing with some things at the moment. I'll be back to making and posting regularly again - but it might be after Xmas.

I'm making little spirit creatures to help me through. Like this one.

Reblogging, as I have updated my pinned post after some questions about commissions.

hi! this is probably not your highest priority project which I totally respect, but do you have any other pictures you might make into puzzles soon? they're so fun and I love seeing your different stuff!

Eyyy. I lovemaking jigsaws, but I'm never really sure what people like. So! tell me what you like: - my craft-focused photos or my outside in the wild photos? - how many pieces?

Orrrr...?

And I'll get back into the jigsaw train game :D

And for new folks, I have some jigsaws of my work here:

The things you make are so beautiful. How you find the particular in the abstract and vice versa. This sounds weird but textile arts have low-key traumatized me because I was raised hardcore conservative Christian in the rural American south and I was forced to learn knitting/embroidery as part of being a "good homemaker" and I have always been so clumsy with my hands and could never get it right and I would always up in tears and seeing what you make is so beautiful and your eye for colours and lines and shapes; I wish I would have stuck with it, I really wish my fingers weren't so clumsy.

Heyo! Thank you for your kind words. Hugs to you for your past trauma <3 But know that you can reclaim textile arts to be whatever you want them to be. And clumsy hands are just part of starting out again in any craft. You don't want to see how clumsy I am painting! Or with clay! OMG my clay creations are hilarious! :D Steady hands comes with practice, so if there's something you want to make, stick at it, be patient with yourself, and do the things that bring you joy. <3<3
