Kavan, as an aging labor Pet, thought he'd seen the worst that the Pet system he so despises had to offer. His body is marred from a decade of mistreatment, his mind moreso- only barely holding onto the remnants of who he was out of spite and sheer desperation.
He thought wrong.

Kavan’s back hurts. Of the numerous things wrong with his situation, this is what he decided to focus on in an attempt to stave off the impeding sensory overload— and this is the only familiar, non-Pet-fuckery problem he has.
A character who has given in and become submissive feeling disgust at themself, shame at what they have become. They lost whatever fight they had within them, whatever strength they had.
They can’t try to fight back anymore, now that they’ve debased themself completely. It is far too easy for their captor to remind them of their place, to laugh in their face at any display of courage. They are small and weak and pathetic and both of them know it. There’s no use in fighting that image. Now that the mask has slipped, they can’t believe in their own strength anymore.
The humiliation pulls them deep, deep down into shame and self-loathing. They are not the person they always thought they were, the person they desperately wanted, needed to be.
Their self image is broken. All they can see in themself anymore is weakness - and it’s reflected in the way everyone else looks at them too, like they’re some broken, helpless thing. How can they ever try to be strong again when they can’t see any strength within themself?

I fixed it in case anyone wanted to see it without flash banging their eyes with screen full brightness.
a whumpee with a duty forced upon them. a whumpee with a duty they feel they have to do, even if it hurts. even if their body is torn up and scarred. they think that this is their only purpose, the only thing left, the only reason for their existence. they’re self-loathing and they’re guilty and they’re suffering, but they need to keep doing this so they can’t die yet
A character with the mentality, if I’m not dead I’m fine. They hold out under torture, go through extreme conditions like starvation and dehydration, and don’t shrink back from danger. Every time they feel themself getting scared they rebuke themself, sneering contemptuously at the fact that they would even think to act frail when they know better. Getting hurt is never a problem for them. It can’t ever be a problem for them because they have to.
Even if they do start to sniffle a little when they’re alone out in the cold, rocking while cradling a broken bone, knowing no one is coming to help them.

This is Kavan, the famous pet that thinks he’s not a pet that I kept alluding to on my other few asks. First pic he’s fresh into the system (20s?) and second he’s his current age, 39.
he somehow ended up into the pet trafficking system and he Isn’t Happy About It. Kept his memories since he wasn’t formally trained, so he’s a defiant whumpee to the max. Will absolutely try to defend or comfort or surrogate father any younger, more scared pets around. Also severely cynophobic, so it’s a wild guess as to the one way you can truly scare him.
A lot of his personality was lost in the years in bare survival mode, but he was actually just a pretty warm, sweet, mild-mannered man. Now he’s more akin to a scared dog with its teeth bared backed into a corner.
If anyone can handle him I’d love to hear about it

The thing with my caretakers is that they’re not gonna make him continue to be a pet? So I feel like even like, a single Rory would just be chill to hang out.
Oh but the fun part would be the whumpers. We’ve kinda gone over mason hehe but Mason would be annoyed. He wouldn’t let Kavan out of his office, especially if he tried to “corrupt” (aka protect) Rudy and Clyde.

Anyways I’m never gonna get over the dynamics between Mason and Kavan, ever ever ever. He’d hate him— especially once Kavan believes he has to protect and care for and stand up for Rudy and Clyde, and ESPECIALLLYYY since I KNOWW Mason won’t stand for an unruly, ran-through pet undermining his authority. It is a dog. It can’t and shouldn’t make decisions/beliefs like that, much less influence his pets like that. Mason might need to crack down harder, remind it that he saved him from being used and abused for labor.
How would the fall-out affect the trio, do you think? And how exactly would Mason take the challenge? I’m riveted
I mean first off Mason would be doing everything in his power to never ever introduce him. I don’t have the feeling Kavan would earn the “privilege“ of being taken to Masons house.
BUT IF HE DID. And if Kavan got out of the basement and met the boys outside of Masons control….
Clyde would be fascinated by the way he acts and talks. Comply taken aback and intrigued. Rudy would just be terrified of doing something wrong, but also curious because new pet?
Aftermath would include Kavan muzzled for perhaps the rest of time. Honestly he probably would have had to break out of it at the start because mason would have always had him in one.
And because Kavan as now messed with his boys, the kit gloves come off (not that he needed them to begin with.) he’d pull out the electrode implants and attach those, as well as some of the supplements he uses to keep Rudy calm.
And while Mason doesn’t have a dog, I can see him inviting a well trained one over to freak out Kavan and make fun of him. “This is literally a dog, and it follows orders better than you can. Isn’t that pathetic?”
Also if you call them shitty doodles I’m gonna throw water balloons at you. There’s skills and WORK out into those!!! You earned that skill !!!

Kavan wouldn’t DARE grovel at Mason’s feet long enough to earn the right to his household, but disregarding that—
The forced compliance is the worst part for Kavan. He’s stubborn as fuck, he’s always on high alert, he can’t afford anything compromised, and he’s marginally managed to avoid too much brain damage thus far. He’d despise whatever perpetual fog the supplements put him in.
Mason might get a… resigned, spiritually broken but still resentful pet, barely going through the motions of life; After a good, long while of consistency and kavan’s own self-imposed humiliation of Rudy and Clyde, the people he’s sure he’s supposed to protect and help. seeing him like this.
