Question for you from someone who's not in the RWBY fandom...

Are there Role Reversal fics in this fandom? I see people talking about these characters and their backgrounds, and I wonder "what if Ruby was the older sister and Yang was the silver-eyes warrior?" or "what if Blake was the child of a renowned family and Weiss was the former rebel/terrorist? (not really sure which it is)"

I just really like that type of fic, so it made me wonder 🤔🤔🤔

huuum 🤔🤔 i dont think i've seen something like that before, but im not a suuper prolific fic reader either. if anyone has recommendations help a friend out!!!

I mean, Yang even *tried* to warn Ruby-Neo would've caught her flat-footed because she'd stopped to concentrate & optic-blast Cinder, and just didn't shift gears back to 'oh crap petal dodge time!' in that split second. If she *had* started semblancing clear Yang would've absolutely aimed for Murdercream. This whole moment's a very neatly-engineered chain of plausible (and awful) combat developments on the writers' part.

oh yes i think the whole scene (from yang falling to everyone keeping fighting afterwards) is really really really well stitched together. i've watched it soooooo many times since it aired and i'm still so impressed with it lol

I *deeply* appreciate your tag commentary about Yang's bullet-taking record on that one post. I mean, it's a behavioral pattern between that flashback Ursa charge (where Ruby was clearly frozen), Beacon & the voidspace platform, but I honestly wonder if that situation gave her any more room/time for other options than it did for Blake to catch her a split second later. I mean, (a) fleeing civilians to backstop any gunfire and (b) it sure didn't look like *Ruby* would've reacted to Neo in time.

The only thing I think she could maybe have done differently was try to hit Neo instead of pushing Ruby away. But I understand that like. Maybe she though pushing Ruby away was 100% effective whereas trying to stop Neo had a margin of error that she was not willing to bet on. Or maybe she didn't even consider hitting Neo in the first place, she just thought the hit was inevitable and defaulted to take it herself bc she can handle it better. Cause you know.

I mean you know when you were a kid and played online rpgs with your friends and there was always that guy that put A LOT of their points in their hp so when there was a fight they got hit more than everyone else but that's fine because they could take it, and also they were keeping everyone else that couldn't afford that much damage safe??

Personally I think Yang's character asks a very important question that is: what if the tank of your party was the person you loved the most in your life???

Am I mean hdhshsgsjdhjd

No coherent thoughts besides that at the moment I just think about it sometimes and go insane

I will argue that while she did not intend on abandoning Powder, she did walk away from her, twice!

First after discovering that Powder made the bomb that killed their family, and the second time on the bridge, when she took an injured Cait away from Jinx. Now, in both instances I believe she wanted to come back, once she had cooled down the first time, and once Cait was safe the second time, and the tragedy of it all is exactly the fact that both times it's too late to come back, because Silco had already gotten to Powder and Michael had arrested her, and the second time because Jinx had blown herself up along with Ekko on the bridge and was being saved by Singed with the Shimmer operation, which completed her transformation from Powder into Jinx.

So in this very tragic way, the beginning and end of Powder's transformation into Jinx is bookended by Vi walking away from her, fully intending to come back, but never having the chance to do so

I agree with you 100% and this distinction I think - between abandoning someone and wanting to come back but never having the chance to - makes the whole story between them at least 10x more tragic.

Because it's not a scenario where you are like. Yeah what an evil bitch this Vi chick is, Jinx is on the right here. No!!! It's complex!!! It's nuanced!!! It's full of scenarios that could have been if they did this one little thing different, or if circumstances completely outside of their control didn't get in their way!! Absolutely fucked up!!!

I mean. The first time Vi walked away. It absolutely was the right thing to do at the time!!! She completely fucked up hitting Powder in the face and she realized that and took some time to cool of. And if it was just that, if she took some time to calm down and came back, their relationship would be fine eventually, I think. They'd both be fucked up to the core, but still. But that didn't happen!!! Because some fucking cop arrested her and yeah, she didnt abandon her sister but Jinx doesn't know that!!! And it's not like the people around her are very willing for her to reconnect with her sister, so they kinda spend the whole show convincing her that Big Sister is Evil, Actually!!!

My point being. It pisses me off when people say Vi "abandoned" Powder because to me it feels like all this nuance vanishes, you know? Makes the situation seem way more simple than it actually is. Maybe I'm just being picky, but when people say that I'm like. So you are saying you are buying into everything Silco and Sevika are telling Jinx. You were given the two sides of the narrative and you're still talking like this.
