we know emmett hooked up with dudes while closeted, i would love for he and travis to bump into one of those hookups (maybe during a rescue). i can't decide if better drama would come from the hu being out or closeted. either could be interesting.
Hi!
Either would definitely be interesting, but I have to admit that after all the stuff with Travis' dad, I've had my fill a little of closet drama.
Like, that moment where Emmett and Travis are talking in bed, and Emmett wouldn't change anything about the moment because he's proud of having come out and for standing up to his dad, and for finally being himself? That's the kind of happiness that feels precious to me, and I'd like for them both to be able to enjoy that for a while.
So an ex-hook-up who's out. Maybe from Emmett's other life where he could sort-of be himself: art-student Emmett who didn't remember Alicia and who didn't realize girls were following him around, maybe because he was steadily hooking up with a fellow art student? But then Emmett wasn't out and wasn't planning on going to, and Alicia happened and so he broke the other dude's heart.
And that's who they run into at an art exhibition. And it's terrible because Emmett lets himself finally acknowledge that he did had feelings for him? And the other guy is both kind and understanding about it but also bitter because Emmett is the one who got away, and here he is, happily together with a hot firefighter.
Meanwhile Travis is kind of spiraling, because artist dude is hot and arty, and art is Emmett's original passion before his dad ruined it, so now that he's free, why would he stick around with the firefighting people and all the angst that brings.
And then later something catches fire at the art thingy, and they have to go rescue the building and the art, and travis rescues the guy.
Or well, anything like this. I also kind of want Travis and Emmett to bump into Alicia again, because I'm forever sad that we didn't see any of the Emmett coming out to the people in his life on the show, and that still feels unresolved to me. How is she doing? They broke up right before the pandemic hit, were they living together? Did she have a place to go, how lonely was it?
I have so many questions about Emmett in this time period.
But yeah! Running into a former hook-up of Emmett could totally be fun!
This is my very bi witchy avatar on 4thewords.com and I love her so much. I’ve had a bunch of other outfits on there, but I adore this one.
EDIT: And then I got my 2 year streak wings and needed to rethink my entire outfit so here’s my Horned Hottie Adventurer look as well :D
For those of you who like to write, and especially for those of you who are going to do NaNoWrimo, I cannot recommend 4thewords enough. It kind of gamifies writing in that you battle cute creatures with words, and there are all kinds of quests and worlds to explore. Also it reminds me a little bit of Gaia in that you can collect outfits and house items by doing quests and writing.
Through the years it’s kept me writing when I was struggling and has given me a lot of joy by sharing my adventures on there with my writing buddies.
It’s not free, but there is a 30day trial, so perfect for NaNoWrimo, and it’s honestly very cheap. Plus, there’s a community pool for people who can’t afford it, so people who want to support the site buy subscription time for the community.
It’s honestly so great and I love it so much.
Anyway, go check it out at https://4thewords.com/ and definitely hit me up if you do. I have a referral code YGHFL01921, but mostly I want to see everyone’s outfits and share the fun.
- 2021 Books. ⋙ Blood Heir by Ilona Andrews
“Say what you wish. Fight with everything you have. Struggle, kick, bite, none of it matters. He wants you and you will come to him. You will dedicate yourself to him, and when that moment comes, you will beg to bring him your mother’s head on a silver platter. You will weep tears of gratitude when he devours her eyes.”
when two musicians sing into the same microphone and lean in very close to each other... like omg are you guys gonna kiss now to relieve the homoerotic tension?😳
THIS IS NOT ABOUT ONE DIRECTION I DON'T KNOW WHO THIS "HARRY" PERSON IS GO WATCH BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN AND CLARENCE CLEMONS KISS ON STAGE RIGHT NOW
op is the only valid person i’ve ever met. everyone else needs to come to the light
Okay, but this is really important: Bruce Springsteen occupied this really weird place in music history. His songs were all from this pessimistic, nihilistic view of an America that had let him down:
Just like the anti-Vietnam War protest songs that we associate with the 1960s, or the early nihilism that spawned punk music in the 1970s. But he didn't *sound* like a punk anarchist; he sounded like a country rock singer. When he released Born in the U.S.A. people completely misinterpreted (or possibly ignored) the lyrics in favor of the tone of the music.
Politicians used his music to promote their 'Murica Yes! brand, and he had to literally explain that that was not what he was about. He's over here asking when we're going to have jobs and heathcare, not stanning the politicians who weren't helping the people.
It was also kind of a big deal that he had an integrated band, because even as late as the 1980s music was still kind of segregated and MTV was straight up racist. They refused to play and promote black artists and then claimed that were no black artists in the first place. Michael Jackson's record company had to threaten a boycott of their white artists to get MTV to play his Thriller video.
Plus, the first black/white interracial kiss on TV was in 1968 (OG Star Trek). Also it took us until the 70s to get sympathetic gay characters on screen, and the 90s to get gay characters to kiss onscreen. And all of those firsts were met with outrage.
So keep that in mind when you see Bruce Springsteen not just playing with an interracial band, but engaging in an interracial, gay kiss on stage repeatedly.

Ahsha Hayes/Taylour Paige Signature High Kick
club jams are the best music for the zombie apocalypse: a serious position i actually have, and can totally defend thanks to being friends with an english major
so here is a thing you may already know about club jams: they are our generation’s carpe diem poetry.
i don’t mean this in an ironic, ‘oho let’s get a well-regarded middle-aged male dramatic actor to read these kesha lyrics with a straight face, won’t that be hilarious’ kind of way. i mean it with all my heart.
here is a summary of roughly half of all modern club jams:
- i am in the club
- i am taking risks and doing things i may ultimately regret
- but i’m not regretting it right now because in this moment i am ALIVE
- and i may not be alive tomorrow [sometimes implied, sometimes stated outright]
- you’re alive too! you may die tomorrow as well! maybe we should sleep together!
- …put your hands up [optional]
if this sounds facetious, go back and reread famous 17th century carpe diem poem ‘to his coy mistress’ by andrew marvell. sum it up in bullet points. exact same fucking thesis. (actually most club jams handle it more delicately; like andrew marvell did you really just try to get a lady in the mood by reminding her that if she stays chaste, ultimately maggots will despoil her virgin corpse? fuckin’ gross, andrew marvell. go listen to some nicki or some pitbull and see how it’s done.)
when i was a teenager i found this a little appalling. (both club jams and ‘to his coy mistress’ to be honest.) like, there’s a level on which these words straight-up glorify making poor choices. but on another level, we will all die someday, and, without condoning really stupid decisions, sometimes there is something to be said for tearing our pleasures with rough strife through the iron gates of life, and/or grabbing someone sexy and telling them ‘hey give me everything tonight.’ (so to speak.)
nothing against tom waits. nothing against the melancholy, ambivalent indie rock that i tend to actually listen to while playing zr, along with the ‘last of us’ soundtrack for the sake of mood. nothing against ‘sleep the clock around’ by belle and sebastian, which i’ve always headcanoned as runner 4′s favorite jogging tune, for some reason.
but club music was created for pumping you up. and in a post-apocalyptic, actual life-or-death situation, where morale and energy and on-the-spot courage are everything, suddenly all the metaphors go literal. if you are sprinting through undead-infested wastes, you aren’t thinking about your retirement plan. you probably aren’t thinking about next week. you don’t have the promise of next week. you don’t have the promise of tomorrow.
what you have is the beat, the moment, and the knowledge that every remaining second of your life is yours, to live as brightly as you can.
