Spiders are some of the most diverse and ecologically important animals on Earth. Even though many people are afraid of them, most are not only harmless but also helpful to humans.

This is Halloween, so I wanted to celebrate by making my first invertebrate evolution chart! Inverts are typically difficult to work with because their relatively small and fragile bodies don’t frequently fossilize which leaves us with big gaps in understanding their journey, but fortunately spiders have a pretty good record. I apologize to all the experts since these ladies are pretty outside my comfort zone but I hope I did a good job!
