The day Pa passed away

we sang a song together.

A song about old times,

odd times,

good times,

old time religion too

and that felt so good.

There was a smile on his lips as he left.

Maybe a song too.

I hope so.

As much as i hope the very best for the child

they call the light of the world.

For every child that comes into the world -

with a cry for care and protection,

a cry that

hopefully

turns into a psalm, a hymn, a blues who knows.

But a loud

a clear

a piercing

don't swallow everything,

don't look away but watch closely what's going on."

Yes, I think, we all

that

come and go.

we all need

(or have

or cherish)

such songs

of encouragement and hope -

come what may.

Some angry. Some sad. Some full of joy.

Some legacy. Some promises.

Or something in between.

We just gotta share.

Make them sound

like a string

strung between heart and brain

and everything in between.

Connect what's still separate.

And then - let's sing -

let's lift our voices high until the heavens

(or the sky)

touches earth.

My calendar asks for a song that makes me sad.

Well here is a beautiful song:

What makes me sad, is the contrast to all the pictures of hate and violence we saw in this passing year.

But - listen closely and - hope for a better one. 🖖🐺

On this evening of the 23rd of December, I chose a wonderful song by a gifted country star, who tried her very best singing a song with gospel flair. In fact, she succeeds, because she is not alone. She is supported by a magnificent gospel quartet: The Mccrary Sisters. I could say a lot about the american dream. Black and white together. Remember? But I think - we better listen to this song and let the words speak for themselves. ;)

Time flies. It flies so fast and challenges are so many, i found no time for my calendar.

But, don't worry, my next choice covers day 20 AND 21. It's a great song from Bruce Springsteen. What do i say: Huuuge!

For almost five decades the Boss and his magnificent Band(s) were my constant travel companions.

Through ups and downs.

On safe motorways and slippery slopes.

More than once their songs gave me stability and orientation. Taught me the worth of friends and good company.

Helped me stay grounded without giving up my ideals and dreams. Helped me to look forward (and up) come what may.

Yes, he means a lot to me. He and his incredible companions.

Especially when i think of all these Bosses and Bullies in the world, who only think of themselves.

So tonight, i chose an incredible version of "Oh Mary, don't you weep no more."

Raw, energetic, powerful, encouraging. A great blend of Gospel, Blues, Boogie, Jazz, Rock and Klezmer.

Who could ask for more? ;)

So tonight it's gonna be a sad song... Frankly, if there's a song this time of year that I can't hear anymore, it's "Do they know its X-mas". As touching as it is, it makes me sad and angry. It has fallen victim of countless repetitions. What's sad too, there is an anniversary version from 2014 with many stars from way back when. What did these veterans think? Here we are again. So much has happened in terms of development. So much remains to be done. But after all, there are people all over the world who accept the challenge. Even Stars that shine for those in the dark.

So let's lend them an ear...
