that's why we should all explore jiu jitsu if we can. One guy should be able to reatrain John Wayne. Anyone, past or present, who wants to lay hands on another needs to be restrained. Anyone who initiates violence is the "bad guy," regardless of time period, gender, or race.
Thank you for raising this important point.
When we look at the pictures from the Oscar's - John Wayne's attack on Sacheen Littlefeather way back in '73, Will Smith's unforgettable performance a few days ago - they mirror our world on a small scale.
At the moment we are seeing an endless spiral of violence and it raises the age-old question:
Respond with violence? Or - by peaceful means?
(Or chosing means somewhere in between? Like Jiu Jitsu - where the opponent's strength is turned against him...)
In Germany we have a special history and therefore many people see themselves as determined pacifists. At least as long as they live a relatively safe and secure life. Without being mocked. Without fear of being insulted or attacked.
But what if this changes? What if the war draws near? What, when we get involved? When our beloved ones are threatened?
Who wants to condemn people who oppose bad guys / violent criminals?
