As I was reaching this part in the story I kept trying to imagine how I will execute it.
I mean I could just make sequence panels showing how LWJ grabbed the jar and drank it but I wanted the visuals to be surprising and bizarre just as perceived by WWX at the moment.
WWX was so deep in his “offended state”, taking a sip from the jar he didn’t even notice what LWJ’s reaction was to his words. WWX’s arm hiding LWJ was my way to pull the viewer into the same position.
And only at the moment of putting down the drink does WWX realize the consequences of what just happened, as do we. Just showing LWJ already in the process of drinking, jar held high up with no visual preparation leading to this or explaining this.
And of course the last spit take panel, where WWX is so shocked at what he just saw before his eyes, because he saw it. He never thought that such a thing was possible but BAM he got it straight to his face. 👌🏼👌🏼👌🏼
So yeah, I’m kinda proud at this choice of panels and angles, cause it was the best way to execute this moment in my opinion 😁

Regarding Lan Wangji breaking the rules and bringing alcohol to Wei Wuxian.
This isn't new! He already did it in Arc 1.
In fact, ever since the moment he brought him into the Cloud Recesses, he started bringing him Emperor's Smile from Caiyi, because he wants to make Wei Wuxian as happy and content as much as he can considering all the limitations him and Wei Wuxian had been warned about by the cultivation world.
(Wei Wuxian can't go outside, can't write, can't draw, can't use powers or arts of any kind to anything, can'd have access to books)
We already saw how Lan Wangji broke some of those (like taking him out and bringing him alcohol) and soon we'll see some more hehe~ Just like in the cave where he injured 33 elders, the rules are second to keeping Wei Wuxian well. Same with the pact he made with the cultivation world. He's cautious, but he never meant to imprison Wei Wuxian, he meant to save him and keep him alive and feeling guilty as it is for always rejecting him and not standing by his side as much as he could, he puts Wei Wuxian's well being as a first priority, relying on his high reputation to guard him (but at the same time risking it too).
Wei Wuxian is aware of all that Lan Wangji is doing for him and how it goes against the CR rules and against the pact. Every now and then he mentions it to poke him, sometimes in a passive aggressive way (like, "how come you punished me back then and got mad at me when you do it yourself??") and sometimes really just being surprised at the change Hanguang Jun made.
(Also at this part from Arc 2, PLEASE DON'T PAY ATTENTION TO THE BUNNIES PART, SCRATCH THAT, HE DOESN'T KNOW ABOUT THEM LMAO SORRY, I MISSED THAT DETAIL)
Anyways, yeah, Lan Wangji always keeps Emperor's Smile for Wei Wuxian :D
At the moment of this part, LWJ is on one end very happy to see the progress Wei Wuxian suddenly made at wanting him to stay, but at the same time he's so tired and hurting from his scars that you can see in his entire body language and manner of speech that he's really out of patience he now normally keeps for Wei Wuxian, and kinda really wants to return to the Jingshi.
REALLY THE TIMING OF YOU DECIDING TO GET CLOSER SUCKS, WEI WUXIAN
Really, look how Wei Wuxian is literally allowing himself to sit in front of him now as opposed to arc 1, acting on flirty and HINTING HARD
And Lan Wangji?? SUPPRESSING ALL THE GAY FEELS CAUSE WHAT CHOICE DOES HE HAVE AT THIS POINT WITH HIS DAMN LOW SPIRITUAL ENERGY AND SCARS HE CAN'T LET WEI WUXIAN KNOW ABOUT?? TT_TT

some of you have wondered why Lan Wangji just brings in the food, says some short stuff and proceeds to leave instead of staying. Well, there are several reasons for that... I just felt like it's a very Lan Wangjiesque thing to do at this moment of time.
It's the end of the day, curfew time is reaching, both of them are tired both physically and mentally from the events of the day, and Lan Wangji feels like Wei Ying needs his privacy and rest.
Even though Wei Wuxian is under his custody, and in all honesty he can enter and exit this house as he pleases, he doesn't want it to be this way. He doesn't want Wei Ying to feel like he has no free time or free time to himself, as if he's always under supervision.
Also don't forget that they had this "deal" in Arc 1.
Lan Wangji doesn't want to linger any additional moment in Wei Wuxian's private place, especially this late at night, so it won't seem as if he's trying to impose his presence and demand certain things that Wei Wuxian certainly doesn't really wish to do. He wants to gain Wei Wuxian's trust by showing him that he's not there to control him, supervise him, or demand anything of him for his own gain.
Another reason is something that this AU didn't mention yet, but is a huge deal that will be dealt with in future arcs: Don't forget that our poor Lan Zhan is seriously injured from whip lashes that happened only around 4 months ago. Like it's said in the original novel, It took him years to regain his strength.
So how is he out and about in this AU? It's because in order to watch over Wei Wuxian, make his life in the Cloud Recess more comfortable, and protect him should he need to

He uses all of his physical and spiritual power to constantly heal, but in fact, he is very vulnerable.
Wei Wuxian thinks that when Lan Wangji isn't with him, then he must be attending the matters of the cultivation world or going to night hunt, but in fact, everytime Lan Wangji isn't with him, it's because he's in the Jingshi or in the springs, healing and strengthening himself T^T
So at this time in Arc 3, he brings in the food, and as you will see in future pages he is less calm and patient, and his manner of speech is not that nice like it was in arc 2. The man is simply exhausted.
