like her stealing a rabbit from people and then later saying she should have stolen more and joel telling her they can get their own rabbits???
ellie being MAX feral goblin in the dining hall and joel SO SINCERELY going, "what's wrong with you?"????
this man ended up with this spicy kitten off the streets, has bonded with her (in true "the pet dad didn't want" fashion), and now is surprised when she growls at people for looking at her for too long
joel, the girl does not have home training, okay
we know that YOU find her cute and endearing, but she is still very much a scrunggly kitten standing in her food dish and hissing at everyone else
Ok but this is the most accurate analysis of Ellie I’ve ever seen
The man is so clueless. Like he's so surprised when she doesn't even blink before shoving her bag into his chest after he gives her the choice.
Joel, she is your feral trash kitten; she has bonded with you. She was just waiting for your ass to figure it out. She will be sleeping in your shirts and chewing on your bootlaces. You're her person, get used to her pinprick nails poking you whenever she decides to climb your back so she can sit on your shoulder and hiss at people.

SO PRETTY!! INCREDIBLE ART!! BRAVO!!
I love all of the small but important bonding moments we get in the show. We get multiple significant bonding moments every episode—I got you baby girl, it wasn’t time that did it, you deserve a choice, diarrhea is hereditary, etc.—but also so many tiny little things that make me so 😭❤️
Ellie asking Joel if they’re gonna be okay. Joel answering her questions about the outbreak. Joking together about music. Helping Ellie up when she falls. Ellie laying on him on the horse and in the basement. Joel asking for puns because he knows it makes Ellie happy. Letting her get some rest in the car. Telling her he knows it’s scary on the wooden plank. Chef Boyardee. So, so many more.
It’s one of those things that makes TLOU so good, and something that is missing in so many other shows. The fact that we have multiple times an episode where we slow down and get to see our characters talk and bond and grow just a bit closer. The show would work without it, but it adds so much to their relationship and makes us fall in love with the characters in a really rare and special way.

Before Ellie is all smiles on Callus, resting her cheek against Joel's back, she finds Joel waiting for her in the horse stables:
She's expecting his goodbye, knowing how badly the last one hurt—"You and I are going our seperate ways."
She stands tense with guarded eyes as Joel speaks, trying to appear emotionless so she can show him she doesn't care he's leaving, though we know she does.
Then Joel says, "You deserve a choice," and that's all she needs to hear. Then she's smiling for pretty much the rest of the scene.
Not to mention she goes straight for the horse and pets him once she knows Joel is staying because she probably needs a hug and doesn't realize it because no one ever hugged her.
