I know this is random but ppl talking about rr doing his research dont know how shitty his research truly is. As a pagan im biased but his myth research is shit. A good portion of his myths weren't even from the greeks, biggest one being medusas backstory and peresphone and hades story (both roman origin, bot beileved or told by anyone.) Obviously this is much less worse than his other lack of research failings but like even when he cares he doesnt ♡ sorry for bein random im just a mad pagan lol

tw ahead: ableist language (l*me)

2. Same mad pagan also rycky rat knows dooki bullshit abiut egyptian mythology, he doesnt even understand basics like how the duat works, the fact that Horus was an uber generic name and there where two major Horus' (elder and son of isis), some gods comboed with Ra are literally just Ra (Amun espically!) And others arent at all (Sobek, HORUS!!). Also in general removed SW asians from AEgpyt for shallow black rep, Ra in the nursing home was yikes, and it was also lame (objective fact)

it’s okay I’m cool with random asks. (note about ableist language)

I’ve gotta be honest with you I remember almost nothing from TKC, and only stuff from like the first book, so i don’t really know what you’re referencing there. But from what i remember i do get what you mean about him not having much SW Asian folks in the series.

I am also pagan (and omnist), but since I don’t personally worship any of the Roman, Greek, or Egyptian pantheons, I don’t think I can speak on those specific ones, so I’ll just leave that open ended from your comments.

I will say though, it does irritate me how Rick portrays these non-christian religions he isn’t apart of. Like yes, Roman, Greek, and Egyptian pantheons and lore are fairly mainstream across Europe and the middle east, so he’s not intruding as much as he would be if he’d chosen smaller or more marginalized religious groups, but still.

Like the entire premise of the series is that these Gods being real is what separates the story worlds from real life, as if no one actually still holds beliefs in any of these Gods. Plus constantly referring to religions you’re not apart of as “mythologies” always rubs me the wrong way because it implies they’re myths in the first place, rather than genuine, deeply-rooted cultural beliefs which are still upheld and respected by people from those cultures.
