Happy Birthday Marie Magdalene Marlene Dietrich (27 December 1901 - )

[When asked about the secret of her success] Secret? No secret at all. I work hard, that is all. People say that I have some sort of “quality” - well, maybe I have. How am I to know that? All I know is that I walk onto a stage, stand still, and sing. I think it is Dietrich the woman they like - rather than Dietrich the singer. They pay to see me for what I am.

We may all be a peculiar lot...often broke, often dissatisfied because we're not doing more and better work...but we know how to have a ball that makes the rest of the world seem square.”

Happy Birthday Jackson DeForest Kelley  (Jan 20 1920 – June 11 1999)

I`m very grateful for the career that I`ve had. And I`m very grateful for the experiences that “Star Trek” has afforded me along with my past background. When I look back and think how fortunate I`ve been to work with some wonderful people and had some marvelous experiences, then I can look at “Star Trek” and think it`s almost like the cream on the coffee. I don`t approach it as anything but a magnificent plus.

Favourite actor meme: Boris Karloff [1 decade]

→1930s

Karloff’s career was perhaps never so wide ranging and successful as it was during this period. After the release of Frankenstein in 1931, Karloff shot to stardom, opening the way for other iconic roles in horror films such as The Old Dark House, The Mummy, The Black Cat, The Raven, The Black Room and the Walking Dead. In over 50 films Karloff’s variety is shown; he is monster, man, madman, scientist, doctor, gangster and even light-hearted detective throughout the decade.

Happy Birthday William Henry Pratt aka Boris Karloff (23 November 1887 - 2 February 1969)

One always hears of actors complaining of being typed– if he’s young, he’s typed as a juvenile; if he’s handsome, he’s typed as a leading man. I was lucky. Whereas bootmakers have the spend millions to establish a trademark I was handed a trademark free of charge. When an actor gets in a position to select his own roles, he’s in big trouble, for he never knows what he can do best. I’m sure I’d be damn good as Little Lord Fauntleroy, but who would pay ten cents to see it?
