Giant Fantos was fun to board. For scale we took a cue from Jurassic Park and always cut him off a little, impluing he was too large to fit on screen
Playing with scale and hiding the cuts - through camera movement or FX wipes.
This is called “invisible technique” or “seamlessness,” and the goal is to hide the film making so the audience can focus more on whats happening on screen.
Sorry if you've received this question before but: Why was there so little of Stuck Chuck in season 2? He was one of my favorite characters/parts of season 1, and it made me sorta sad that he didn't really get to join in on the adventures or interact much with the rest of the Local Heroes.
I missed him too, but there were 13 characters to work into every story, and I think his story had been told.
I time to beats. Every action in the episode was done in some increment of 4 - (but usually an increment of 8.) The trick is to vary the action between those beats (slow, medium fast) to keep things interesting.
Still trying to push the timing contrast. Tom and Jerry is my major inspiration. Bill Hanna’s variety of timing, or “texture”as animators call it, made every scene a delight, and kept things from becoming repetitive.
Still trying to push the timing contrasts. My timing hero is Bill Hanna, who timed all the original Tom and Jerry's. His variety of timing or "texture" as animators call it - made every scene a delight.
For this clip I cut the music and temp sound effects first, then adjusted picture to fit. "If it sounds right it will look right," is a good piece of editing advice.
Do you have any production art like storyboards that you could share of Poochini?
I have some layouts and model sheets that I drew - but no storyboards. WildBrain kept all those. I'd be happy to post what I have if you're interested.
In Kid Cosmic we played a lot with cutting on action - which is cutting in the middle of an action and finishing it in the next shot. It helps hide the cuts. This is a very common technique in live action and animated features, but for whatever reason you don’t see much of in TV.
Finished season 2 and I absolutely loved it! Especially the payoff with the goo stone. Thigh I'm curious, what lead to decision of Kid not having the telekinesis stone for most the season? Is it because it's pretty OP?
Glad you liked season 2! This was Jo's season so we wanted to focus on her . This might have been harder if Kid had his full awesome powers. There was also a bit of a "What's the worst thing that could happen to a character - and how could that end up being the best thing that could happen to them?" kind of a deal going on.
Still trying to push the contrasts. Also sneaking in an ambiguous shot for variety. The red lasers on black are intentionally vague to briefly make the audience ask "What am I looking at?" The theory is it involves the audience in the story just a *tiny* bit more.
When something isn’t working in a sequence, it’s often due to a lack of contrast. Action sequences can get monotonously fast. Here I was trying to push the contrast between short, loud shots and longer, quieter ones.
POV shots are a great way to answer the question, “whose story is it,” by literally showing the story through their eyes. The Pyramid Puzzle of Pain was Flo’s story so.....
Here’s another animatic clip from “The Pyramid Puzzle of Pain.” The goal here was to create interest through contrasting longer shots and shorter ones
Also does Craig have any other show ideas after Kid Cosmic? I love his work.
He just pitched a bunch to Netflix. They’re all awesome.
Me and a friend of mine created this idea that Dominator considered Fantos her first real friend till he turned her down saying Erodius was best then she was. Hence why she has a hard time accepting friendship and such.
Okay I made that idea and she really dug it 😅
Ha! I also think someone hurt Dominator in the past.
“Hurt-people hurt people” as they say.
