my grandpa has this friend who's writing him in (friend won't vote harris bc he's a republican, won't vote trump bc he hates trump, and won't abstain from voting bc he still wants to participate in house senate school board etc) so we've been joking all day about grandpa's inevitable write in victory and anyway thats why i'm spending election night looking for a non-crunched version of the jeb meme

rewatching cleopatra 2525 and it's not even funny how GOOD it is and how unfair it was it got axed
- the characters and setting are really well constructed. there's no "early episode weirdness", cleo is cleo, hel is hel, and sarge is sarge. sure the characters change for sure but its development. theres a LOT of very good subtle foreshadowing. stuff like hel's dad issues, the black watch, etc are teased well before they're explicitly addressed and in a very natural way. the underground is such an interesting setting and, as much as it is weird and random, is very internally consistent. new elements are introduced but they dont feel out of place. the writers had a good handle on what they wanted the world to feel like from the start.
- it didn't even get cancelled for its own fault, it got cancelled because the other show in its programming block got cancelled midseason and the network didnt want to shuffle it elsewhere in the schedule. unfair!
to be clear it's not gonna hold up to big-budget prestige stuff and i'm not claiming its the best thing to ever be on tv but its so fun and underrated. perfect female-led scifi action schlock.
the subtle tension of hel trusting voice more and more as it becomes more and more obvious that voice is not trustworthy... neither sarge or cleo being able to call it out since they can't hear the voice... hel and high water being a rly good episode anyway but also the first episode where the team is working fully independently with no way to contact voice and also the first episode where they have a nonviolent encounter with a bailey...
its been years and i still dont understand why this is presented as an either-or situation. you can take the gold with you and tell the story of how you got it. and with evidence that will make it more believable (the gold)
