Review - 2/2 Lover - Angels and Demons
2/2 Lover is a free game for iOS by Libre Publishing Co.,Ltd.
Overview: This is more than just an otome game. It is also a daily horoscope and a voice alarm app. I’ll focus on the otome part first and then discuss the other functions of the app after.
Story: The MC stumbles upon a mysterious ring. She tries it on and then finds that it won’t come off. She meets an angel who was looking for the ring, and he ends up at her home. Before she can even comprehend she’s living with an angel, she discovers that he shares his body with a demon who appears only at night.
Gameplay: The gameplay is easy once you get the hang of it, but it’s hard to describe in words. To be honest, it’s a little confusing at first. The best way to learn it is to read the “How To Play” section in the menu. The directions are well written and have helpful visuals.
Each route is divided into chapters. You may read a new chapter when you fill up the character’s blue hearts by turning them pink. You earn pink hearts by logging in each day and by choosing the correct choices in the scenes.
To earn the daily log-in heart, you have to interact with (tap on) your character of choice. Hinata is available from 7am-7pm, and Setsuna is available between 7pm-7am (with an option to switch this order). You can interact with each character as much as you want, but you only earn a heart for the one you interact with the most.
This app is free, but only up to a certain point. You have to purchase the character pack to be able to see the endings. Each character pack is 4.99USD. The character pack also keeps the heart meter from exceeding two blue hearts, allowing you to play a story each day as long as you log in daily.
Characters: Hinata is the blonde angel. He’s cheerful and affectionate, and he often compliments the MC on how cute she is. Both his words and actions are sincere.
Setsuna is the demon with red hair. He’s cold and scary, and he insists on calling the MC his servant. Though his words are threatening, his actions show an awareness for the comfort of others.
Other Functions: This app also functions as a daily fortune. If you open the app during Hinata’s time, he will give you a brief, voiced fortune. If you open during Setsuna’s time, you can only view the text version in Japanese.
There is also an alarm function where you can set an alarm with a pre-recorded message from the character.
Art: This is the first app to be translated into English that uses the Live2D system. The character’s entire body moves in realistic and lifelike ways. Really, it’s amazing to see.
Sound: The characters are fully voiced, both their dialogue in the story and in the interactions. The voice actor Nobuhiko Okamoto actually voices both characters, and he does a fantastic job!
Final Thoughts: I love this app, even though the daily stories are really short. I like both guys equally too. I feel that the writers did a good job at making the characters likeable and well rounded within a short story.
I can’t say enough about the voicing. Nobuhiko is incredibly talented, and his voice gives so much to the characters. It wouldn’t be the same without it. Add in the Live 2D system, and you have an app that is really unique from all the other translated phone games available at this time. I would really suggest checking it out even if it’s just to see the Live 2D system at work.
Hint: This game is based on daily play, but if you are impatient, you can trick it. If you go into your Date and Time Settings and manual set it, then you can push the day forward. When you reopen the app, it will think that a day has passed and you can read another part. Essentially you can read the entire story at one time with a little patience and maneuvering.
